Job Purpose
The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the continuous availability of raw materials and packaging materials required for production while maintaining optimum inventory levels. The role focuses on balancing material availability, inventory investment, supplier performance, and production requirements to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Material Planning
- Prepare short, medium, and long-term material requirements based on the production plan.
- Convert production plans into Raw Material (RM) and Packaging Material (PM) requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages and excess stock.
- Maintain safety stock and reorder levels for all materials.
Procurement Coordination
- Generate Purchase Requisitions (PRs) according to planning requirements.
- Follow up Purchase Orders (POs) with the Purchasing Department.
- Monitor supplier delivery schedules and resolve supply delays.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding delivery commitments.
Inventory Management
- Optimize inventory while maintaining required service levels.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory.
- Review material shelf life and expiry dates.
- Recommend actions to reduce inventory carrying costs.
Production Support
- Ensure material availability before production starts.
- Identify material shortages and communicate risks proactively.
- Support production rescheduling when materials are delayed.
- Coordinate substitute materials when approved.
Planning & Analysis
- Analyze material consumption trends.
- Review forecast changes and assess material impact.
- Update planning parameters:
- Lead Time
- MOQ
- Safety Stock
- Reorder Point
- Lot Size
- Maintain accurate planning master data.
ERP / SAP Management
- Maintain material master data.
- Execute MRP runs.
- Review MRP exception messages.
- Validate planning parameters in SAP.
- Ensure system data accuracy.
Cross Functional Coordination
Work closely with:

Reporting
Prepare periodic reports including:
- Material Availability
- Material Shortage Report
- Inventory Status
- Supplier Delivery Performance
- Slow Moving Inventory
- Inventory Days of Supply (DOS)
- Purchase Order Tracking
- Material Risk Assessment
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience
- 3–5 years in Material Planning, Supply Planning, or Inventory Management.
- FMCG experience is preferred.
- Experience with SAP ERP (PP/MM) is highly preferred.
