Road Structures Inspector

Job Description

Overview

A Road Structure Inspector is responsible for inspecting, assessing, and documenting the condition of transportation-related structures such as bridges, culverts, flyovers, retaining walls, drainage structures, underpasses, tunnels, and sign gantries.

Your role

• Develop project schedules, work breakdown structures, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with survey, design, and geotechnical teams for project readiness.
• Review drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Monitor day‑to‑day activities on site (earthworks, pavement layers, drainage, structures).
• Ensure proper execution of embankment, sub‑base, base course, and bituminous layers.
• Supervise construction of structures such as culverts, retaining walls, and minor bridges.
• Ensure materials meet standards (IRC, MORTH, ASTM).
• Conduct inspections, tests (Proctor, FDD, cube tests, asphalt testing), and record QC results.
• Verify adherence to design specifications and approved methodologies.
• Maintain daily progress reports, inspection checklists, and material logs.
• Prepare work progress summaries and submit to project managers.
• Track quantities for billing, measurements, and contractor payment certificates.

About you

• Strong knowledge of road construction techniques (GSB, WMM, DBM, BC).
• Understanding of structural and drainage works.
• Familiarity with surveying tools (Total Station, Auto Level).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project (or Primavera).
• Knowledge of standards such as IRC, MoRTH, and IS codes.
