Senior Operator, Gantry Crane

Major Responsibilities & Duties performed:

1. Check the condition of Crane prior to start operating and fill the checklist accordingly.


2. Report the problems to the Scrap Controller / Foreman immediately.


3. Preparation of Charge Basket as per given Charge mix following instructions from Scrap controller.


4. Charging of DRI, DRI Fines or Fluxes into the basket whenever required.


5. Cleaning of scrap hangings over basket edges, clamshell wire rope & on Hanger after loading basket.


6. Cleaning of scrap spillages over STC & at Basket loading area after loading basket by crane magnet.


7. Cleaning of truck movement area / pathway under the scrap yard gantry by crane magnet frequently.


8. Unloading of P&S / Heavy scrap from trucks using crane magnet.


9. Picking out of leftover scrap from the bottom of the unloaded Trailer trucks using Electro-Magnet.


10. Shifting of scrap to the designated Storage locations as per Shift Foreman / Inspector instructions.


11. Cleaning the floor from leftover scrap after piling up of unloaded and inspected scrap from each truck.


12. Blow the horn when operating LT/CT to alert coworkers & Equipment working in scrap yard gantry.  


13. Responsible for safe operations of the Crane & always maintain Housekeeping of scrap yard areas.


14. Assist / Suggest to the maintenance crew during crane breakdown or whenever required.


15. Train junior Crane Operators and keep monitoring on-job-training.


16. Assist scrap operations team by doing related multi-skilled jobs if asked by Foreman.

Other Responsibilities:

1. To understand and follow the organizational HS&E policies.


2. To follow safety instructions related to their jobs.


3. To report damaged PPE, unsafe machines or equipment to concerned staff.


4. To keep the provided PPEs in good, workable conditions.


5. To avoid any horseplay and abuse of safety devices, equipment and welfare facilities.


6. To report any accidents, near misses or hazardous conditions to concerned responsible.


7. To attend safety trainings planned for them.


8. Having a right to say "NO" to any unsafe work.
