The work of the Apparmor teamis strategically important to Ubuntu’s security posture, safeguardingboth end-users and Canonical’s diverse range of products, includingUbuntu Core, Snaps and Microk8s.You will work alongside fantastic security professionals already onboardat Canonical, and share your time between contributing technically, andmanaging team members and projects. You will also get to closelycollaborate with various other Canonical Engineering teams (Kernel, Core,Snapd, Foundations), the upstream open source community, and our businesspartners.This role would suit either an experienced manager of high performingsoftware development teams, or a very proficient technical lead who isexcited to take on a management responsibility. You will need to bepassionate about Linux and aspire to be an integral part in itsdistribution to millions of users worldwide.Location: This is a Globally remote roleKey responsibilitiesBuild and lead a globally distributed team of engineers through hiring,coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career developmentSupport timely delivery of technical solutions to address businessneedsProvide technical thought leadership for your team and others aroundCanonicalAdvocate and advance modern, agile software development practicesGrow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with thecompany valueWhat we are looking for Exceptional software engineering skills – design, document, plan,executeDemonstrated understanding in one or more of the following areas:Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or otherlike languages also highly regardedSubstantial experience with Linux kernel internals and conceptsSolid understanding Linux kernel development principlesdeep understanding of Mandatory Access Control systems, such asApparmor, SELinux or security modules.Contributed to an open source project in the pastDemonstrated experience in managing or leading software engineeringteamsWillingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal eventsWhat we offer youYour base pay will depend on various factors including your geographicallocation, level of experience, knowledge and skills.
