Job Description - Senior Principal Engineer (Solar Cell Technology / R&D)

Responsibilities

  • Bring in the expertise in heterojunction solar cell process development and integration to increase cell efficiency in production.
  • Bring next generation and novel solar cell processes for CVD and PVD for high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells applications. - Transfer of newly developed processes to production as part of the delivery of R&D projects.
  • Responsible for the cell efficiency improvement of heterojunction silicon solar cell and overlook the technology transfer activities to overseas production lines. - Design, evaluate and specify the tool requirements for production line upgrade and capacity expansion.
  • Perform characterizations of the experimental samples and data analysis. - Manage project and report project status:
  • To overlook the full implementation of the improved process of the first pilot production run in accordance to company project management guidelines (i.e. PCRB - Process Change Review Board and RPDM company Project Development Management) including writing of proper documentations at different stages of process development and technology changes (e.g., implication and interactions with other processes, lessons learnt) for the handover to Operation.
  • Responsible for the management and execution of R&D projects aimed at improving conversion efficiency for n-Mono crystalline silicon solar cells based on heterojunction structure with amorphous Si passivation and transparent conductive oxide (TCO).
  • Responsible for the execution of thin film deposition using CVD and PVD techniques e.g. PECVD, magnetron sputtering PVD, aimed at improving conversion efficiency for heterojunction silicon solar cells.
  • Prepare technology roadmap and map out cell efficiency improvement items.
  • Responsible to lead the technical team and lead the technical team to realize the cell efficiency gain research enablers in the production condition. Besides, candidates need to be a highly motivated, hands-on process and characterization expert to bring the production-level cell efficiency up and oversee successful implementation of cell efficiency improvement project to the product level including module power and product reliability.
  • To collaborate closely across departments to bring research ideas and developments to production implementations and lead RCA to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • To engaged in designing/specifying the equipment requirement for line upgrade and/or a capacity expansion.
  • Responsible to keep a close eye on external developments in their field of expertise that might be relevant to company technology roadmap.
  • Expected to operate to the highest standards of safety and ethics, in accordance with the Company Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Minimum Masters Degree in Engineering or Science with at least 5 years experience for Principal level or 8 years experience for Senior Principal level in
  • an R&D or engineering department of Solar/Semiconductors/Electronics company.
  • Proven track record of implementing new processes into pilot and/or mass production.
  • Prior process knowledge to heterojunction solar cells, thin film deposition on PECVD process, sputtering process.
  • Experience in solar cell device physics, characterization of amorphous and nanocrystalline silicon films (Raman, Eg, Ea) and TCO films (hall effect mobility, carrier concentration, conductivity).
  • Research experience of heterojunction solar cell is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with crystalline solar cell processes and integration especially in heterojunction solar cell processing and characterization.
  • Overseas travel is required for technology transfer activities (< 20% a year).
  • Experience with advanced processes for high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells.
  • Experience in using simulation software e.g. PV lighthouse, PC1D, AMORSFET.
  • Proficient in Software statistical tools is an added advantage (Minitab, JMP, etc).
