The Need


In today's complex architectural and engineering landscape, seamless workflow, standardized data, and cutting-edge technology are paramount to project success. The Design Support Unit acts as the backbone, ensuring that all project teams, both architectural and engineering, are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and processes necessary to deliver exceptional results. This Unit focuses on optimizing the design process, fostering collaboration, and maintaining the highest standards of digital design excellence. It's a critical bridge, connecting diverse disciplines and ensuring a cohesive, efficient, and innovative approach to project delivery.



The Opportunity


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Technology and BIM Support Specialist to be a core member of our newly formed Design Support Unit. This critical role is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, standards, and technology stack. You will be the first point of contact for technical support, a key developer of our digital assets, and an essential trainer, ensuring all project teams are empowered to deliver high-quality, efficient, and innovative designs.





Core Responsibilities (Duties)


The specialist will be responsible for ensuring the technical and operational excellence of our digital design environment, including:


1. BIM Standards and Content Management



  • Develop, maintain, and enforce Standardized BIM Content (Families, Templates, etc.), ensuring accuracy and consistency across projects.

  • Establish and champion BIM Execution Plans (BEP), ISO BIM Standards, and internal best practices.

  • Ensure similar folder saving structures across all projects to standardize data management.


2. Workflow Optimization and Auditing



  • Conduct regular BIM Model Health Audits to identify and resolve errors, inconsistencies, and performance bottlenecks, ensuring data integrity and model reliability.

  • Analyze existing workflows, create Workflow Process Improvement Documentation, and develop strategies for greater efficiency and seamless data exchange.

  • Provide comprehensive support for Model Setup & Project Initialization, including template application, coordinate systems, and project information.


3. Technical Support and Technology Management



  • Provide timely and effective Technical Support & Troubleshooting to project teams for BIM and design-specific software.

  • Manage Software Access Management (licenses and user accounts), ensuring teams have the tools they need.

  • Conduct Hardware review and assessment, and make Software & Hardware Recommendations & Support to ensure tools are fit for purpose and up to date.


4. Training, Coordination, and Collaboration



  • Develop and deliver targeted Training Programs & Materials on BIM software, modeling techniques, and industry standards, driving team upskilling.

  • Facilitate Inter-Unit Workflow Integration and coordinate with diverse disciplines (Architectural, Engineering) to ensure cohesive project delivery.

  • Develop clear External Stakeholder Collaboration Protocols and act as a liaison to ensure effective information exchange and project coordination.



Qualifications and Key Skills



Experience & Design Acumen Advantageous



  • Experience as a Lead Architect or senior design professional on complex architectural projects (5+ years preferred) to provide deep insight into the practical needs, workflows, and pressure points of the design team.

  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the full project lifecycle from concept to construction documentation (e.g., SACAP Stages 1-6).


Education & Registration



  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Formal BIM Certification or equivalent experience in a Design Technology/BIM Management role is highly advantageous.


Technical Proficiency



  • Advanced knowledge of BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Revit) is mandatory.

  • Extensive experience with ACC required.

  • Experience with Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshoper, and AEC collection advantageous


Process & Management



  • Proven ability to analyze, document, and improve existing AEC workflows.

  • Strong understanding of project management principles as they relate to design delivery.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely explain complex technical ideas to diverse teams.

  • Strong presentation and training skills with a focus on upskilling others.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical issues.

  • High attention to detail and a meticulous approach to standards development.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
