NatCarbon Africa seeks a Project Controls Junior (Planning and Reporting) in the Project Controls Department for the large-scale Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.

With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom (Portulacaria afra) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.

Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager within the IPT, the Project Controls Junior (Planning and Reporting) will be responsible for the preparation of the various reports on a weekly, Monthly and Quarterly basis for the project along with assisting the Project Planning Manager in planning the execution of the project.  The Project Controls Junior (Planning and Reporting) will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of project data across multiple reporting platforms. The role involves identifying and resolving data discrepancies, collecting and validating information from department directors, maintaining up-to-date reports, and ensuring data-driven decision-making. This individual must be highly detail-oriented, proficient in planning and forecasting, and possess strong communication skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Data Integrity and Accuracy

• Ensure all reporting data is accurate, consistent, and up to date.


• Identify and resolve discrepancies in data across different reports and systems.


• Validate and cross-check data from multiple sources to ensure reliability.


• Work with department heads to obtain quality data and insights.

Planning

• Assist the Planning Manager with the planning and scheduling of project tasks


• Report schedule slippage and possible schedule challenges timeously to the Project Controls Manager and relevant Department Head .


• Assist in maintaining the Syncro 4D schedule on a Monthly basis.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, summarizing key project performance indicators.


• Integrating Power BI and other reporting tools to streamline data analysis.


• Document data-related issues, solutions, and process improvements.

Communication and Collaboration

• Act as a bridge between different departments to collect and verify data.


• Liaise with directors, project managers, and department leads to ensure accurate and complete reporting.


• Clearly communicate data findings, discrepancies, and insights to the Planning and Reporting Manager.


• Ensure timely follow-ups to maintain up-to-date records.

Systems and Process Optimization

• Maintain and update Excel models, and other project management tools.


• Identify areas for process improvement to enhance efficiency in data reporting.


• Ensure departmental updates are reflected accurately in reporting dashboards.


• Support system integrations for better data synchronization across platforms.

Quality Control and Compliance

• Develop checks and balances to improve data governance.


• Ensure all data aligns with internal reporting standards and compliance requirements.


• Monitor performance indicators and flag inconsistencies or outliers.

Project Controls Activities

• Assist the Project Controls director and Procurement Manager with procurement related matters


• Assist in the all necessary Project controls tasks as necessary.


• Assist the Contract department with contracts as necessary.

 General:

• Some travel within the Eastern and Western Cape may be required, including to remote locations, with occasional weekend or holiday work to accommodate schedules. Work hours may be irregular.

Technical Skills:

• Excel skills


• Cost Management Software experience


• Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools.


• Strong understanding of data management, and quality assurance.


• Ability to automate data validation and reporting processes.


• Ability to automate contract documentation.


• Syncro 4D experience advantageous.

Transferable Skills:

• Highly detail-oriented with an analytical mindset.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to extract, interpret, and present complex data in a simple, actionable manner.


• Proactive problem-solver who can take initiative in resolving challenges.


• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Strategic Management, Information Systems, or a related field.


• 1-5 years of experience in Project Controls Project Planning ,data coordination, project reporting, or analytics.


• Experience in engineering, construction, agriculture, or manufacturing industries (preferred).

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations. Travel may on occasion cross weekends and holidays to accommodate schedules. Work hours may be irregular
