Job Description - Buyer II

Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a high calibre Buyer II.   The Depot Services Buyer will manage the purchasing of products and services essential to Unitrans branches and depots operations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent negotiation skills, a strong understanding of supply chain management, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric • Diploma in Purchasing will be an advantage • Valid Drivers Licence and own reliable transport • Computer literacy, preferably advanced excel • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and multitask • Be able to work unsupervised and meet set deadlines • Ability to take direction and to issue reasonable instructions • Good negotiation skills • Meticulous • Self-motivated and ambitious • Professional

Duties & Responsibilities

Purchasing 

  • Execute timely procurement activities, including issuing purchase orders, processing requisitions, and coordinating with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of goods.
  • Verify the accuracy of purchase orders and ensure compliance with established procurement policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide appropriate procurement support timeously 

Availability of Stock 

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and replenish stock as needed. Monitor inventory turnover rates and identify opportunities for optimization
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery products and services to minimize downtime and disruptions

Inventory Management 

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability while minimizing carrying costs and inventory obsolescence.
  • Utilize inventory management tools and systems to track inventory levels, analyse demand patterns, and forecast future requirements. Communicate and resolve quality of stock
  • Utilize inventory optimization techniques such as ABC analysis, EOQ (Economic Order Quantity), and JIT (Just-in-Time) inventory management principles.

Supplier Performance Management:

  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance against predefined key performance indicators (KPIs), such as on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address performance issues, resolve disputes, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers to foster collaboration and drive continuous improvement.

Cost Savings

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and contract management.
  • Conduct price benchmarking and cost analysis to drive cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining quality standards and operational requirements.

Rebates

  • Managing the rebate process and working with procurement finance to ensure rebate is invoiced and captured.

Store Coordination 

  • Align with stores on daily delivery expectations and process goods received same day ensuring smooth flow from
