Job Description - General Manager (Insurance)


SUMMARY:
Our client, a leader throughout Africa in the trade credit insurance industry has an opportunity available for a General Manager to join their team based in Roodepoort and manage the division for a new product that offers Top-up cover and Gap cover as complementary Trade Credit Insurance products. We are looking for someone who has strong experience in a leadership role in the insurance industry, strong commercial acumen and a keen interest in business efficiencies through automation.

POSITION INFO:
Qualification / s kills and experience required:

  • A BCom or similar qualification.
  • At least 4 years’ leadership experience in the insurance industry
  • Excellent understanding of the insurance industry
  • RE5 qualification is non negotiable
  • Proven track record in commercial and risk management in financial services or related fields.
  • Successful track record with B2B sales.
  • Experience in the trade credit industry / short term insurance would be hugely advantageous
  • Keen interest in automation to drive business efficiencies
Job description:
  • Report to shareholders and Director
  • Be responsible for implementing policies, procedures and controls to manage operations with ongoing view to automating and improving efficiency
  • Communicate with the Advisors, clients, primary insurers and stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Be responsible for all operational aspects of the business - preparing quotations and presenting to deal forum, issuing quotes and policy documents, issuing invoices and collecting premium due, daily/weekly/monthly reporting to stakeholders, handling claims, and assisting with compliance requirements.
  • General administrative and compliance duties
  • Regular risk assessments and feedback to Exco
  • Assist with financial reporting (Management accounts, etc)
  • Identification of prospects within the client base and engagement with clients to sell the new product offering
  • Identification of prospects and sales initiatives directly and through engagement with the sales team
  • Create structure in this new division, create a pipeline, see gaps in the market and take on the challenge with a “business builder” mindset.
