Protection Services Manager

In fulfilling the Protection Services Manager role, you will manage, lead and coordinate Coal South Africa’s protection services to ensure legal compliance and minimise risk.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.

Job Description

• Ensure adequate support to the security services on the operation through guiding and advising management on intelligence and legal requirements and implementing effective security measures
• Management of incidents reporting and investigations of theft and loss of assets, security breaches and damage to company asset, whilst identifying and monitoring security indicators and needs
• Ensure effective stakeholder management through identifying potential conflict situations, take pro-active action and minimize implications through the identification of best practices
• People management through effective relationships with both direct reports and service providers on site
• Develop, implement and monitor processes to ensure a safe and secure working environment and optimize asset and resource protection

Qualifications

• Advanced Diploma/ Degree in Security Management (NQF 7)
• Registered with Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA)

Experience

• Extensive security/investigation related experience, preferably in the SA Police Service (SAPS)
• In-depth security management experience, preferably in the mining industry environment
• Proven track record in security management and criminal investigations
• Proven experience in criminal - and white-collar crime investigations and docket management as well as informer handling
• Previous involvement in court cases and providing evidence in court
• Experience in tracing and apprehending of suspects, surveillance and suspect, pre-employment, and company screening experience
• Experience in conducted security and public liability audits

Additional Information

• Knowledge of protection services best practices
• Competent in protection services systems and procedures used in the organisation (e.g. buying, tendering and adjudicating procedures)
• Expert in security systems and processes
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including:
• Criminal Procedures Act/ Statute Law/ Security Officers Act/ Law of Evidence/ Mine Health and Safety Act /Labour Law
• Knowledge of Court cases and departmental hearings
• Knowledge of Suspect pre-employment and company screening
• Knowledge and understanding of Anglo Coal, South Africa policies and procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of the Colliery Administration Procedure manual (CAPM)
