Job Description - Professional Civil/Structural Engineer

The Department of Infratructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to provide expert civil and structural services for the Directorate: Programme/Project Infrastructure Delivery: General and Chief Directorate: General Infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

An appropriate Engineering Degree [B Eng/BSc (Eng)] or relevant qualification; Three years post qualification engineering experience required; Compulsory registration with ECSA as a professional engineer; A valid code B driving licence.

Competencies

Knowledge of the following: Contract documentation and administration; Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations; National building regulations and all relevant built environment legislation; Financial management; Programme and project management; Built environment (civil/structural engineering design and analysis in the construction of office buildings and general facilities; Computer aided design of building structures and services; Design of different structural systems; Design of roads, water, storm water and sewer reticulation and systems; Legal compliance and formulation of policies in a multi-disciplinary professional environment; Procurement processes; Skills needed: Decision-making, leadership, problem solving and analysis, people management, technical report writing, planning and organising, conflict management; Proven computer literacy (MS Office; MS Project, Revit, AutoCAD and engineering application); Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work in a team.

Remuneration

Grade A: R 833 499 - R 889 158 per annum; Grade B: R 939 024- R 1 011 597 per annum; Grade C: R 1 068 342 - R1 254 282 per annum (OSD as prescribed)

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts orcollective agreements.
