Job Description - Junior Accountant

My client in Hermanus is currently looking for an Accountant for a 12 month fixed term contract. This position is available immediately. Industry: Financial Services Reports to: Finance Lead Key Requirements:

  • B. Com Accounting degree with completed articles (preferable) OR
  • Accounting Diploma with minimum 3 years’ experience with a reputable firm.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work autonomously, while also working successfully within a team.
  • Proven organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work to ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through.
  • High degree of resilience and motivation.

The Role: This role primarily entails the completion of various accounting and financial administration tasks and providing support to the Finance Lead. Key Responsibilities: · Debtors o Match all client fees received per bank statements, to the CRM system. o Invoice and receipt client fees on accounting system and ensure it accurately syncs with CRM system. o “Manual” customer invoicing for receipts not reflecting in CRM system. o Follow-up on outstanding debtors / CRM fees administration. · Creditors o Processing of supplier bills and submission for electronic approval of expenses in accordance with the company policies. o Prepare creditor reconciliations where applicable. o Make daily payments to service providers. o Obtain valid B-BBEE certificates from suppliers. · Accounting o Download & electronically file bank statements from online banking system. o Capture all bank transactions to accounting system, allocate appropriately. o Perform bank reconciliations. o Petty cash: do cash withdrawals, record cash expenses, and do monthly reconciliations of Petty Cash. o Process journals for interest on call account, loan capital and interest. o Prepare general ledger reconciliations. o Provide auditors with the necessary assistance and documentation required during audit processes. o Assist with other month-end procedures / journals as may be required. · Administration o Filing of all source documents in the electronic vendor repository. · Cash Flow Management o Daily cash flow report (income, expenses, bank balances, net cash flow). o Daily cash inflow report for COO.
  • Risk rating of the company’s clients.
  • Load client local payments on Bidvest Bank for approval.
Learning and Development: · Available and willing to learn existing and new processes that may be added to the company’s suite of products/services from time to time. Compliance:
  • Comply with all company standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations and legislation from regulators and organisations such as FSCA and SARS.
Key Relationships: Internal and external relationships; level of interaction and purpose. Internal (Primary)
  • Finance Lead & CFO – to seek advice, direction, and guidance on delivery of successful outcomes.
  • Colleagues – to ensure customer requirements are met within expected timeframe and quality standards.
Internal (Secondary)
  • Liaise with subject matter experts to ensure systems and processes are continuously improved to increase efficiency and data integrity.
  • Risk and Compliance – consult and seek advice on financial / business risks, controls, mitigating actions and response.

  • Systems knowledge - Familiar and proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel). Sound understanding and proficiency with the employer’s CRM system (Salesforce).
  • Product knowledge - Advanced knowledge of the products and/or services the employer offers to their customers locally and internationally.
  • Adaptability - Willingness to learn and adjust to a changing work environment.
  • Co-operation & teamwork - Co-operative in planning and striving to see that the goals and objectives of the company are being realized.
Additional Information: Employment Engagement - This is a permanent position (one-year fixed term contract). The incumbent will be employed under an employment contract which specifies employment terms and conditions including salary. Workplace Health and Safety - The role holder of this position must comply with workplace health and safety requirements and policies. As part of your role, you will also ensure other team members also comply with the company’s workplace health and safety requirements and policies.
