The University of Pretoria is a multi-faculty research-intensive university that has remained among the top South African universities in research output and impact. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for comprehensively handling reported incidents (crime, injuries, misconduct) involving UP staff, students, visitors and/or the public as well as users of UP facilities from initial investigation, trauma support, drafting of dossiers, preparations for the court case up to acting as a witness during court cases. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Launching proactive crime prevention and security actions;
Provide and facilitate information, support and guidance to different groups, key persons and individuals;
Rendering inputs during special events and other occasions as part of the security team;
Drafting risk analyses after an incident to prevent similar incidents with the view of policy changes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A relevant Bachelor/BTech degree with 3 years proven experience, OR a relevant National Diploma with 5 years proven experience in police service or similar environment in:
Investigating crime scenes
Taking of statements
Evidence gathering
Court procedures and bearing witness
Scene handling
Activation of police experts - fingerprinting, staff, photographers, etc
Electronic security systems: cameras, access control and alarms
PSIRA Grade A
Valid driver's licence
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
National Diploma in Police Administration or BA Pol or equal qualification
Diploma in Administration of Criminal Law and Forensic Auditing
Formal training in handling of trauma
First Aid certificate (Level 3)
At least 2 years of proven experience in:
a university or similar environment
Executive decisions/Policies in terms of e.g., firearms, asset control, access, public gatherings, liquor licenses and smoking (on UP premises)
Security service contractors and job descriptions
Applied knowledge of UP's Disciplinary Code for Staff and Students
