Job Description - Group Sommelier


SUMMARY:
Sommelier for a 5 star internationally recognized lodge group MUST have WSET level 2
Wine pairing and knowledge
5 star background/Cruise/International experience POSITION INFO:

  • Wine Selection : Sommeliers are responsible for selecting wines to be featured on the establishment's wine list or menu. This involves considering factors such as the cuisine served, customer preferences, budget, and trends in the wine industry. Sommeliers often taste and evaluate wines to ensure quality and suitability for the establishment.
  • Wine Purchasing : Once wines are selected, sommeliers negotiate with suppliers and distributors to purchase wines for the establishment. They must consider factors such as price, availability, and the reputation of the producer when making purchasing decisions.
  • Wine Storage : Sommeliers oversee the storage of wine to ensure that it is properly stored under the correct conditions, including temperature and humidity control. This may involve managing a wine cellar or storage facility and implementing inventory management systems to track wine stock.
  • Wine Service : Sommeliers play a key role in providing wine service to customers. This includes assisting customers with selecting wines that complement their meal, recommending specific wines based on their preferences and budget, and describing the characteristics of different wines.
  • Staff Training : Sommeliers often train and educate other staff members, such as servers and bartenders, about wine. This may involve conducting wine tastings, providing information about wine regions and grape varieties, and teaching proper wine service techniques.
  • Wine Pairing : Sommeliers have expertise in pairing wines with food to enhance the dining experience. They work closely with chefs to develop wine pairings that complement the flavors and textures of the dishes on the menu.
  • Customer Relations : Sommeliers interact with customers to build relationships and provide personalized recommendations. They may host wine tastings, wine dinners, or other special events to engage customers and promote the wine program.
  • Wine Education : Sommeliers continually educate themselves about wine through tastings, seminars, and coursework. They stay informed about new wine releases, industry trends, and developments in winemaking techniques.
