The University of Pretoria is a multi-faculty research-intensive university that has remained among the top South African universities in research output and impact. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Virology modules for the Department of Medical Virology;
Supervising of PhD/MSc/MMed/BSc Honours students in the fields of Virology;
Publishing in the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) approved journals;
Applying and securing research grants for national and international projects;
Updating course content and revising study guides for modules related to Virology;
Developing and/or maintaining the electronic learning environment;
Strengthening research activities in the Department of Medical Virology and its affiliated research centres and institutes, as well as collaborative transdisciplinary research with other disciplines within the Faculty and the University;
Developing collaborations with local and international researchers
Participating in the Department of Medical Virology strategic initiatives relating to teaching, learning and community engagement;
Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Line Manager and/or the Head of School
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
28 accredited publications preferred (articles with 60% in ISI journals)
7 postgraduate students supervised (minimum 1 Doctorate)
Conference papers delivered in national and international conferences
NRF Rating
Membership of international bodies and/or evidence of conducting reviewer duties for ISI journals
Evidence of a sustainable research programme
9 years' teaching experience
Curriculum leadership
Teaching portfolio compliant with UP criteria
Community engagement recommended
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
Leadership experience;
Effective grantsmanship as evidenced by secured international competitive research grant(s);
Experience in the areas of global health;
