Job Description - Assistant General Manager

Luxury Safari Lodge Assistant General Manager

Synopsis: Join our clients prestigious team at the  Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, where luxury hospitality meets conservation excellence. As the Assistant General Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting their mission to deliver unparalleled guest experiences while championing sustainability initiatives and community development.

Job Description: As the Assistant General Manager, you will collaborate closely with the General Manager to maintain the lodge's exceptional standards and operational success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong relationships with staff, guests, governmental entities, local communities, and organizations to support the lodge's objectives.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of community development and wildlife conservation initiatives.
  • Supporting the General Manager in optimizing business efficiencies, maintaining product quality, and controlling costs.
  • Collaborating with the General Manager to enhance the guest experience through continuous improvement of lodge facilities and services.
  • Engaging with staff to foster a positive work culture and ensure high performance standards.
  • Conducting regular assessments of operational equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Providing supervision and support to the hospitality manager and department heads in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Taking ownership of budget creation and management, including financial reporting.
  • Overseeing day-to-day lodge operations across multiple sites.
  • Facilitating meetings to coordinate guest arrivals, departures, and maintenance activities.
  • Developing strategies for guest delight, staff welfare, health and safety, and training programs.
  • Managing human resources functions, including staff development activities.
  • Collaborating with the executive chef to maintain food quality standards and guest satisfaction.
  • Participating in community development projects and representing the lodge at management meetings and industry events.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience in a 5-star hospitality operation, with at least 5 years of experience in East Africa.
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, hotel management, or a related field.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for delivering world-class guest experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, communicate effectively, and build relationships.
  • Lateral thinking ability and initiative to drive innovation and problem-solving.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet the diverse needs of guests and staff.
  • Attention to detail, diligence, and self-motivation to achieve deadlines and targets.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and financial management systems.
  • Previous experience in food and beverage operations will be advantageous.

This is a permanent live-in position based in the Ngorongoro Crater. Salary is $3200.
