Job Description - General Manager: Manufacturing

Department: Manufacturing Services

Reporting To: Manufacturing Director

 

Purpose of the job:

  • To oversee all aspects of the manufacturing facility, leading teams and ensuring operational excellence.
  • Optimising production processes, maintaining quality standards, and driving overall efficiency.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure smooth production processes.
• Implement strategies to enhance productivity, minimize downtime, reduce production costs, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and product quality requirements.
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels to meet production demands.
• Establish and enforce quality control standards to deliver products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the manufacturing team, fostering a positive and motivated work environment.
• Set performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and support employee development plans.
• Implement and monitor safety protocols and initiatives to minimize accidents and incidents.
• Identify opportunities for expansion, growth, and process improvements.
• Support to all other departments in matters related to manufacturing, e.g. procurement of materials.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process.
• Analysis, and make informed decisions to optimize resource allocation and maximize profitability.
• Successful new product introduction and continued delivery to customers.

Minimum Requirements:
B. Tech; BSc. Engineering Mechanical/ Electrical (B. Com or MBA beneficial) or similar Production related qualification
• 6 -10 years of progressive experience in a Senior Management role within Manufacturing and Production Engineering

Leadership Skills: Competencies
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, driving organizational change, and achieving strategic objectives. Proven ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
• Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control
• Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Financial acumen with experience in budget management and cost optimization.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• In-depth understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Additional Requirements
• Proficiency in the use of MS Office
• Proficiency in electrical/mechanical engineering principles.
• Proficient in project management methodologies and tools, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
