The City of Cape Town seeks an experienced scientific professional with competence in data and modelling in the energy and greenhouse gas emissions domains.
Requirements:
- B degree in science, engineering, finance or economics
- Five (5) years’ relevant experience
- Data management and analytical skills
- Sufficient working technical and theoretical knowledge to make estimates and forecasts of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the key economic sectors.
Key performance areas:
- Report City operational and city-wide energy and greenhouse gas emissions data and analysis to international and local platforms, national government and City partners as needed
- Collect, analyse and interpret data for monitoring and verification of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects
- Energy systems modelling particularly energy demand modelling and related climate action mitigation measures modelling
- The position will be responsible for the maintenance and ongoing improvement of the City’s demand-side energy systems simulation model currently built on the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (
- Lead the compilation of the annual greenhouse gas inventory according to GPC standards
- Coordinate stakeholder engagements, develop collaborative programmes and manage expectations
- Represent Sustainable Energy Markets on the transversal data coordinating committee and provide strategic input
- Ensure coordination with other relevant data bodies in the City
- Project development and budget planning and management for data management and integration projects within the department.
