Key Responsibility Areas - PROFESSIONAL PLANNER (T14)
• Participates in the development of the departments strategic plan.
• In collaboration with other departmental role players prepares, implements, monitors and reviews the Spatial Development Framework in compliance with the Integrated Development Plan.
• In collaboration with all role players prepares, implements, monitors, and reviews the Spatial Development Framework (SDP) and Local Area Plan (LAP).
• Prepares, implements, monitors, reviews, and amends the Land Use Management System.
• Processes, assesses, and resolves development applications, submitted in terms of any legislation.
• Conducts land use enforcement interventions on routine matters.
• Undertakes research and policy formulation with regard to planning and development matters.
• Supports the management of information through establishment and maintenance of information systems.
• Manages planning and development related projects.
• Supports special programmes and projects for other units as a professional planner
• Participates in community and advocacy planning.
• Provides technical information, advice and guidelines to all stakeholders, including other spheres of government and civil society.
• Undertakes administrative duties as may be required.
• Gathers and collates statistical information on all plans and planning processes.
Key Responsibility Areas - SENIOR PROFESSIONAL PLANNER (T15)
• Prepares, implements, monitors and review the Integrated Development Plan as it relates to the Unit outputs and the Spatial Development Framework in compliance with the IDP.
• Prepares, implements, monitors and reviews Spatial Development Plans (SDP) and Local Area Plans (LAP).
• Prepares, implements, monitors, reviews and amends the Land Use Management System.
• Processes, assesses and resolves complex and major impact development applications, submitted in terms of any legislation, for both council owned and privately owned land.
• Conducts land use enforcement interventions and undertakes community and advocacy planning.
• Undertakes and manages research and policy development as well as planning and development related projects.
• Provides technical information, advice and guidelines to all stakeholders, including other spheres of government and civil society.
• Gathers and collates statistical information on all plans and planning processes.
• Undertakes all tasks assigned in relation to Individual, Divisional, Branch or Departmental Performance Plans.
• Mentors technical planners and professional planners, and temporary technical / professional staff.

Essential Requirements - PROFESSIONAL PLANNER (T14)
• Degree (NQF Level 7) in Town and Regional Planning or equivalent.
• Registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Town and Regional Planners (SACPLAN).
• Valid motor vehicle driving license.
• 4 years relevant experience.
•Computer Literacy.
Preferred Requirements:
• Postgraduate Degree (NQF Level 8) or equivalent in Town and Regional Planning or equivalent.
• Registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN) for Town and Regional Planners.
•5 years relevant experience.
Special Conditions:
May be eligible for progression to Senior Professional Planner subject to the criteria and conditions.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to undertake field work.
Essential Requirements - SENIOR PROFESSIONAL PLANNER (T15)
• Postgraduate Degree (NQF Level 8) or equivalent in Town and Regional Planning.
• Registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN) for Town and Regional Planners
• Valid motor vehicle driving license.
• 5 years relevant experience
• Computer Literacy.

• Postgraduate Degree (NQF Level 9) or equivalent in Town and Regional Planning.
• Registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN)
for Town and Regional Planners.
• 6 years relevant experience.
Special Conditions: •Eligible for registration as a Peace Officer.
Physical Requirements:• Must be able to do field work.
