33005842 - Plater / Welder Assistant

Key Responsibility Areas:
• Clean, lubricate and preserve machinery, vehicles, equipment, tools, workshop and yard area.
• Remove rust and general cleaning of parts and/or equipment.
• Portage of Artisan and Handymen tools, materials and equipment to and from stores, vehicles, workshops and/or worksites and safe keeping thereof.
• Liaise messages to Supervisors, Handymen, Artisans, Mechanical Assistants in either writing
or verbally.
• Provide general physical assistance, support and labouring duties to Handymen, Artisans,
Supervisors, fellow General Assistants.
• Act and work in an efficient and safety conscious manner in accordance with all safety rules,
practices and requirements.
• Undertake the correct operation of hand power tools under the discretion of the Artisan,
Handyman and Supervisor.
• Assist with the loading/positioning of materials and jigs etc on machinery.
• Responsible for the connection/disconnection of hoses, torches and gauges and safe handling and storage of gas bottles.
• Demarcate work areas and perform traffic control.

Essential Requirements:
• An appropriate level of primary education.
• 6 Months relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements:
• An appropriate level of secondary education.
• 1 Year relevant experience

Special Conditions:
1.40 hours, 5 day week.
2.Be prepared to work overtime to meet the exigencies of the service.
3.Protective Clothing: As per PPE Schedule.
4. Subject to transfer/relocation to any of the Electricity Unit's divisions/depots as required.

Physical Requirements:
1. Be physically fit and in good health as determined by the City Medical Officer of Health.
2.Be able to physically lift heavy objects and equipment.
3. Be able to climb ladders, lattice structures and work at heights.
4. Have the necessary dexterity to work with tools.

Essential Requirements:
• An appropriate level of primary education.
• 6 Months relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements:
• An appropriate level of secondary education.
• 1 Year relevant experience
