Our client is seeking a skilled After-Sales Technical Service Engineer to join our South African team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area, offering the opportunity to work with cutting-edge horticultural technology while supporting customers across the African continent.
As the technical face of the client, to their customers, you will ensure optimal machine performance, deliver expert training, and maintain the high service standards that define our brand. This role combines hands-on technical work with customer engagement, requiring both technical excellence and strong interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Service & Maintenance
Install, commission, service, and maintain machines and nursery automation equipment at customer sites
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical faults efficiently
Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled systems to minimize customer downtime
Conduct preventative maintenance programs to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity
Maintain accurate service records and technical documentation
Customer Support & Training
Provide comprehensive on-site training to customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices
Deliver remote technical support via phone, video call, and digital platforms
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular interaction and proactive communication
Respond promptly to customer service requests and ensure high levels of satisfaction
Identify opportunities to enhance customer operations through technical recommendations
Travel & Field Work
Travel extensively to client sites across South Africa and the broader African region
Manage travel logistics efficiently while maintaining service delivery commitments
Work independently in the field with minimal supervision
Key Requirements
Education & Qualifications
N6 qualification, National Diploma, or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering
Valid driver's license (essential)
Valid passport with ability to travel internationally (essential)
Technical Skills & Experience
Strong practical knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatics, and electrical systems
Experience with troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery
Exposure to PLC-controlled systems (Siemens knowledge is a strong advantage)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, and pneumatic diagrams
Proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and measuring instruments
Personal Attributes
Excellent problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach to fault-finding
Strong customer service orientation with professional communication skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Willingness to travel regularly (up to 60-70% of the time) and work flexible hours when required
Physically fit and able to perform hands-on technical work in varied environments
Adaptable and comfortable working in diverse cultural settings across Africa
Preferred Additional Skills
Previous experience in agricultural, horticultural, or nursery equipment
Knowledge of hydraulic systems
Second language (advantageous for customer communication)
