The University of Cape Town (UCT) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the permanent position of Benefits and Exits Officer within the Human Resources Department. This role forms part of the Organisational Health & Benefits team and is responsible for the day-to-day, efficient, accurate and compliant administration of all employee exit processes, including resignations, retirements, retrenchments, dismissals and death in service.

This position also provides technical support and guidance to the Social Benefits Administrative Assistant in the execution of their day-to-day responsibilities.

Requirements for the post:

• Relevant NQF Level 5 qualification


• At least 5 years’ relevant work experience in HR benefits administration


• Experience in HR administration, particularly in exits and benefits processes


• Knowledge of retirement fund administration


• High level of computer literacy, including SAP HCM and payroll administration systems, MS Word and Excel.


• Excellent numeracy and reconciliation skills


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• High level of accuracy and attention to detail


• Ability to work independently and under pressure


• Strong client service orientation


• Ability to handle sensitive and personal information

The following would be advantageous:

• Knowledge of relevant tax legislation

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and administering all exit processes, including resignations, retirements, retrenchments, dismissals and death in service


• Administering retirement fund processes, including the accurate reconciliation and payment of retirement fund contributions and Group Life Assurance (GLA) contributions, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable requirements


• Ensuring compliance with tax, UIF and other statutory requirements associated with employee exits, including the preparation and completion of UIF documentation for exiting employees.


• Processing terminations on SAP and ensuring data accuracy and integrity


• Providing accurate information and guidance to staff and beneficiaries on exit-related benefits


• Coordinating annual retirement processes and associated administrative requirements


• Managing and responding to queries from current staff, ex-staff and retirees


• Preparing and submitting monthly and quarterly reports relating to exits, benefits and retirement fund administration


• Liaising with internal stakeholders and external service providers, including fund administrators and insurers

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R448 889 and R528 105.
