Job Description - Business Development Representative

Business Development Representative
Location: Cape Town or surrounds (onsite and client-facing)
Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: R15,000.00 - R20,000.00 Basic + Commission + Cell & Fuel Allowance 

Overview:
A leading supplier in the architectural lighting industry is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Representative to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of lighting, design, and specification sales, and a proven track record in business development within the industry. You'll be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building strong relationships with architects, designers, contractors, and developers, and driving sales growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, target, and secure new business opportunities within the commercial, residential, and hospitality sectors

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including architects, designers, consultants, developers, and contractors

  • Conduct client meetings, site visits, and presentations to promote lighting solutions and specifications

  • Collaborate closely with the internal projects, technical and design teams to ensure client requirements are met

  • Represent the brand at industry events, exhibitions, and networking opportunities

  • Achieve sales targets and contribute to the company's long-term growth strategy

  • Keep up to date with industry trends, product knowledge, and competitor activity

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a business development or sales role within the lighting, architectural, interior design, or electrical industry

  • Strong industry network and understanding of the project lifecycle, from specification through to implementation

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence decision-makers

  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently

  • Own reliable transport and a valid driver's licence (essential)

  • Based in Cape Town or surrounds, with flexibility to travel to client sites as needed

Advantageous:

  • Experience working with architects and designers on lighting specifications

  • Familiarity with lighting control systems and/or product training certifications
