Job Description - CNC Machining Estimator

You Know How to Machine It. Can You Cost It?

We’re looking for an experienced CNC Machinist /
Programmer
who can take years of hands-on machining knowledge and apply it
to
manufacturing estimates and quotations.

You’ll look at a technical drawing, determine how the
component should be manufactured, what material and tooling are required, how
long it will take to machine, and ultimately what it will cost to produce
.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned machinist
looking to move into a more commercial role (using your technical skills and experience).

Key Responsibilities

  • Review
    technical drawings and determine the most effective machining process.

  • Estimate setup, machining and cycle times for new components.
  • Assess
    material type, hardness and machinability when preparing estimates.

  • Determine
    tooling, speeds, feeds, workholding and machining requirements.

  • Prepare
    accurate machining estimates to support quotations.

  • Program
    CNC
    lathes and milling machines, using Edgecam.
  • Develop
    machining methods for new and prototype components.

  • Identify
    manufacturing risks and potential cost-saving opportunities.

  • Assist
    with tooling, jigs, fixtures and gauges.

  • Support Engineering and Production with
    machining and process-related challenges



Requirements

  • 5–10+
    years' CNC machining experience
    , ideally as a qualified CNC Machinist,
    Fitter & Turner, Toolmaker or similar.
  • Strong
    hands-on experience with both
    CNC turning and milling.
  • Proven
    CNC programming/CAM experience.
  • Edgecam
    experience is highly preferred; strong Mastercam experience will also be
    considered.

  • Excellent
    ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Strong
    knowledge of
    materials, tooling, speeds, feeds, tolerances and
    machining processes
    .
  • Able
    to accurately determine how a component should be manufactured and
    estimate the time and resources required.
  • Must
    come from a
    metalworking, precision engineering or heavy manufacturing
    environment
    .
  • Experience
    machining
    large, complex or high-value components would be a strong
    advantage.
  • Detail-focused,
    commercially aware and confident making technical decisions.


Benefits

Salary & Benefits

R45,000 CTC, depending on
experience. Some flexibility may be available for an exceptional candidate with
strong machining, programming and estimating expertise.
