Envusa - Health & Safety Officer (Sishen Solar PV Project)

As the Health & Safety Officer for the Sishen Solar PV project, you will lead the implementation and enforcement of all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures on-site. You’ll coordinate closely with contractors, the EPC, the Owner’s Engineer, and the mine’s Safety Department to ensure legal compliance and uphold Envusa’s high standards for HSE performance.

This role requires hands-on involvement in everything from safety audits and incident investigations to contractor compliance, site inductions, HSE documentation, and stakeholder reporting.

Key Responsibilities include:

  Enforcing compliance with Envusa’s HSE plans, site-specific risk assessments, and national legislation (MHSA & OHS Act)

  Leading inspections, audits, and investigations; managing site permits and emergency response planning

  
  


• 
  

  Managing HSE documentation, risk registers, and the Intelex safety platform

  
  


• 
  

  Reviewing and approving contractor safety files and RAMS (risk assessments & method statements)

  
  


• 
  

  Issuing PPE, conducting training reviews, and ensuring legal HSE appointments are in place

  
  


• 
  

  Representing Envusa at mine safety meetings and leading HSE reporting for internal and external stakeholders

  
  


• 
  

  Acting as the site’s COVID-19 compliance manager

  
  

• 
  

  Diploma in Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Management or equivalent

  
  


• 
  

  SACPCMP registration as HSE Manager (compulsory)

  
  


• 
  

  Certifications: SAMTRAC/COMSOC, ISO 45001/14001/9001 auditing, Incident Investigation (L2+), First Aid Level 3, Firefighting, HIRA, Legal Liability (MHSA & OHS Act), and Snake Handling

  
  


• 
  

  5+ years of HSE experience in renewable energy construction projects (PV preferred)

  
  


• 
  

  In-depth knowledge of MHSA, OHS Act, and South African labour legislation

  
  


• 
  

  Proficiency in Intelex or Isometrix and MS Office Suite

  
  


• 
  

  Medically fit to work on a mine site

  
  


• 
  

  Valid Code 08/10 driver’s license

  
  


• 
  

  Willingness to be fully site-based for 18 months

  
  

• A safety-first professional with proven HSE experience in the renewable energy or heavy infrastructure sectors
• Excellent communication, coordination, and auditing skills
• Strong working knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, and legal compliance
• Ability to mentor contractors, lead meetings, and resolve issues under pressure
• A proactive, organised, and collaborative individual ready to enforce a zero-tolerance HSE culture
