Furnace Operator

WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for four Furnace Operators to join the team in Steelpoort. You will be responsible for carrying out analysis as per analytical methods and standard operating procedures related to fire assay to a high degree of precision and accuracy, ensuring that an effective and high quality analytical service is provided to meet reporting deadlines on PGM samples submitted to the laboratory.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES

To be successful at Alfred H Knight the incumbent will need to display the following:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Reporting any incidents on shift to the Shift Supervisor within 12 hours of the incident


• Advising the Shift Supervisor of any equipment breakdown, flawed supplies or sub-standard consumables 


• Weighing and fluxing of all samples 


• Fusion of samples 


• Low Temperature and High Temperature Cupellation of all samples 


• Ensuring the confidentiality of all results at all times  Performing instrument checks, balance verification and recording all relevant data and faulty equipment being brought to the attention of the Shift Supervisor


• Perform assigned additional tasks according to established priorities and procedures 


• Ensuring that all laboratory work areas and work stations are kept clean and tidy 


• Assisting with the maintaining of records and laboratory data such that work is clearly and easily auditable and traceable 


• Alerting the Shift Supervisor of low stock levels or specialised materials formally before stock levels dry up 


• Maintain a professional standard and appearance during working hours and while representing the company 


• Observing and complying with operational requirements and safety regulations applicable to your work area. Non-compliance will be considered to be serious misconduct, and the Employer is hereby indemnified by the Employee towards any liability resulting from an injury or illness as a result of non-compliance with safety measures 


• Carrying out other ad hoc duties as may be requested by Shift Supervisor from time to time according to established priorities and procedures

Required Qualifications

• Grade 12 (with Maths and Science)

Required work experience

• Minimum of 3 years of fire assay experience
