Job Description - General Manager

Our client in the FMCG Industry is looking for a General Manager to be based Durban. If you meet the following requirements, do not hesitate to submit your CV for consideration. 

Scope of Work: 
  • Develop and
    establish short and long -term plans and strategies and execute such plans and
    strategies in the achievement of approved targets and objectives.

  • Review
    economic, market and Company trends and develop and execute corrective action
    to ensure achievement of the Company’s targets and objectives.
      Report on this action and on actual operating
    performance versus budget and forecast objectives.
     
  • Direct
    development and growth programs including store network growth, franchising,
    concept development, product development and acquisitions in line with Yum
    programs and activities.
     
  • Maintain quality
    in Company operations through the development and application of Company
    policies, procedures and standards consistent with Yum operating procedures.

  • Remain abreast
    of competitor activity and prevent competitors from gaining in market share
    through the development and implementation of appropriate marketing strategies
    and plans.

  • Ensure that all
    funds, physical assets and Company property are properly safeguarded and
    administered, and that capital expenditure programs are approved in accordance
    with established authority, budgetary parameters and Company policies
     
  • Develop and
    maintain professional business relationships with the franchisor in order to maximize
    performance. Oversee compliance and appropriate corrective action.

  • Provide leadership to the senior team across all
    functions.
     Develop and maintain an
    appropriate organization structure, employee motivation and management succession
    and progression.


Requirements

  • Minimum 10
    years overall experience with emphasis on operations, marketing and finance with
    at least minimum 3 years recent general management experience with direct
    sales/profit/people management accountability in a medium size organization. 

  • Experience in a
    progressive, face -paced consumer orientated business essential. Experience in
    multi -outlet, retail or service related business is preferred.
     
       
  • Experience in
    short and long term planning and in the development of strategies and plans for
    achievement of approved revenue, profit and growth targets 

  • Experience
    in all facets of line management, including strategy, objective setting, action
    planning, execution excellence, application of analytical techniques, corrective
    action in achievement of operating standards and targets in achievement of
    sales, profit, people and growth targets.

  • Understanding
    and appreciation of modern marketing management and the importance of consumer
    insights into driving results (experience preferred).
     
  • Understanding
    and appreciation of modern human resource management and the importance of
    company values, culture and people capability in driving results (experience
    preferred).

  • Sound understanding of public
    relations activities - both external and internal (experience preferred). 

  • Proven
    leadership skills with the ability to obtain credibility and acceptance in the
    shortest possible time without unnecessary disruption.
      Must be able to relate to all levels of
    management and employees through the application of well developed
    interpersonal skills. Ability to develop close working relationships with key
    first line reports and builds and align teams.
      Strong coaching skills.

  • High level of
    administrative, organizational and communication ability. 

  • Competitive
    outlook with proven decision making ability balanced by sound commercial
    judgment.
      Action should be decisive but
    not reactionary or impulsive.

  • Ability to
    establish and retain clear priorities and apply appropriate degree of urgency
    whilst maintaining a controlled environment and approach to management. 

  • High degree of
    flexibility with the ability to drive and embrace change as an opportunity to
    provide commercial advantage. 

  • Willingness to
    get “out and about” and thus balance time spent in the corporate office
    environment with the need to develop a good appreciation and understanding of
    retail operation. 

  • High energy level and work ethic and capacity to
    work and withstand long hours
