Head of Marketing
Build the category for JobFIT™
tl;dr
- Join JOBJACK’s Exco, an HR Tech startup on a mission to change how the world hires for store-level jobs.
- We believe the biggest waste in business today is putting the wrong people into store-level jobs where they cannot succeed.
- We’re looking for a Head of Marketing who wants to make a name for themselves by building a new category: Hiring for FIT at a store level.
- This role owns the full marketing engine — from narrative to pipeline — and leads a small team while working directly with the founders.
- Cape Town | Hybrid
About JOBJACK
At JOBJACK, our vision is to transform how the world experiences store-level employment. But we are focused on one specific problem:
Millions of people are placed into jobs where they cannot succeed.
And businesses treat store-level hiring like a commodity.
- Bad hire → high staff turnover
- High turnover → lower sales, worse service, unhappy staff.
- Bad Hire → no growth for the hire
- Everyone loses.
We believe every person deserves a job where they can succeed — and every business deserves employees who thrive in their roles.
That requires a fundamental shift:
- From Hiring Fast
- to Hiring for FIT.
The JOBJACK platform makes this possible for the likes of PEP, KFC, McDonald’s SMOLLAN, Refinery and more.
The Role
This is not a traditional marketing role. This is a category-building role.
We are looking for someone who wants to make their name the way marketing leaders at companies like Luno, Yoco, Lula or Fibertime helped define entirely new markets.
Your job is to help the world understand a simple but powerful idea:
Hiring for FIT at a store level should be the new standard.
You will own the marketing strategy and execution end-to-end:
- Crafting the narrative for the JobFIT™ category
- Turning insights into campaigns that generate demand
- Building a brand that people in retail, QSR and merchandising cannot ignore
- Leading a small multidisciplinary team
- Partnering closely with sales, product and customer success
This is a roll-up-your-sleeves role.
- Some days you’ll be shaping strategy.
- Other days you’ll be launching campaigns, writing content, analysing funnel performance, or helping the sales team close deals.
What You’ll Do
I, the CEO, deleted the marketing version. Below is my view:
- Shout about the good things happening: JOBJACK generates unlimited stories to shout about. Data backed case studies. Customer testimonials. People hired a year ago as a cashier who is now a store manager (=Story about FIT), new features going live, 10,000 hires made at PEP through JOBJACK since inception, 15,000 hires made at KFC through JOBJACK since inception, learnings from interviewing 50 store managers, etc…The raw material already exists. Your job is to take the stories to the market in a way they can’t ignore.
- Take 1,000 pictures: There’s a famous story about a photography professor. Half the class had to produce one perfect photograph. The other half had to produce 1,000 photographs. At the end of the semester, the best photos came from the students who had taken 1,000. You need to take the same approach with all the stories we have to shout about. Shout, a lot, and through shouting - find what works, and double down.
- DATA is my food: Double down on the winning stories, as guided by the data.
About You
This role is for someone who wants to build something meaningful.
At JOBJACK we define meaningful work in a simple way:
Something you care about enough to fight someone about.
You might be right for this role if you:
- Believe the way businesses hire store-level staff today is broken
- Feel strongly that people deserve jobs where they can succeed
- Want to help create a new category rather than optimise an existing one
Practically, you likely:
- Move fast — you launch, learn and optimise
- Can combine clear thinking with strong storytelling
- Are comfortable switching between strategy and execution
- Are data-driven
- Have 5–8+ years brand & marketing experience, ideally in B2B SaaS
Most importantly:
You have fire in your belly to build something from the ground up.
What We Offer
Meaningful work: You will help change how millions of people experience their first jobs.
Ownership: You will shape the marketing strategy of a category-defining company as part of the Exco.
Growth: As JOBJACK scales, you will scale with it.
Hybrid work: Cape Town based with two remote days per week.
Leave: 20 days annual leave in year 1. 25 days from year 2.
