Job Description - Head of Training Academy

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking to hire a Head of Training Academy to lead the design and implementation of key elements of our Talent, Learning and Development, and Academy strategies. This role will provide strategic guidance and thought leadership to deliver integrated, high-impact learning and talent development experiences aligned with the Group of Companies’ overall business objectives.


Training Academy Management:
  • Establish the Training Academy as a revenue-generating entity.
  • Develop, establish, and deliver professional and marketable training and development programs.
  • Obtain and maintain accreditation for Academy training programs, including assessor and moderator courses.
  • Market and source opportunities for income generation to ensure the Academy’s financial sustainability.
Formulation and Implementation of Strategy and Operational Plans:
  • Review, benchmark, compile, and implement best practice talent, learning, and development policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Compile and implement Human Resource Development long-, medium-, and short-term operational plans to support broader HR and business objectives.

Talent Identification and Retention:
  • Design, develop, and implement a Talent Identification, Development, and Management Framework.
  • Collaborate with business units to build a sustainable human capital pipeline aligned with the future needs of the company.
  • Develop and facilitate the implementation of succession plans, considering key competencies, skills, and business needs through structured talent reviews.
  • Design and develop HR tools and instruments for identifying talent and high-potential employees (HiPOs).
  • Facilitate the identification of critical talent pools within the organization by engaging with relevant leadership.
  • Provide guidance on group-wide psychometric assessments for talent acquisition and development.
  • Drive change management and transformation initiatives related to the implementation of new talent solutions.
  • Work in consultation with the Organizational Effectiveness Unit to determine the most appropriate change approach based on the intervention’s scale and audience.
Learning and Development:
  • Conduct organizational training needs analysis and develop and implement skills and competency matrices/profiles.
  • Compile and submit the Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report.
  • Apply for and obtain SETA mandatory grants, discretionary grants, project funding, and other financial resources to reduce training costs and maximize ROI.
  • Build and maintain relationships with training and development suppliers, SETAs, and stakeholders to optimize development opportunities.


Requirements

  • Post graduate Degree / Honours in HR / HRD and Behavioural Sciences.
  • Registration with Professional Board (SABPP) at Charted LEVEL preferred.
  • Registration as Industrial Psychologist / Psychometric will be advantageous.
  • Registration as Skills Development facilitator, Moderator and /or Assessor will be advantageous.
  • High level of Business acumen.
  • Advanced Computer Literacy in Ms Office Suite.
  • Proven skills in managing a high level professional Skills Development / Training team and institution.
  • Strategy, Policies and Procedures development and execution.
  • Advanced report writing and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to operate at a strategic and operational levels
  • Curriculum development and facilitation skills.
  • Practical knowledge of Project Management practices, processes, principles and life cycle.
  • Evaluation and feedback abilities.
  • Integrity and honesty.
  • Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement abilities.
  • Budget management.
  • People and diversity management.
  • Risk and compliance management.
