Job Description - Health and Safety Officer

Representing the internal and external occupational health and safety aspects of an established industrial engineering, steelworks, and crane hire industry leader, this high -output position drives comprehensive site compliance and risk management across multiple facilities. The role centres on proactively safeguarding employees, visitors, and contractors while systematically entrenching a culture of risk reduction and protective governance. 

The successful professional will assume complete operational responsibility for developing, maintaining, and auditing occupational health and safety strategies. Working within a multi -disciplinary team, the position demands a meticulous, deadline -driven individual who can manage large volumes of compliance data and maintain delivery standards under significant operational pressure

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Risk Mitigation: Proactively promote the occupational health and safety of all personnel, evaluate risks associated with business activities, and develop comprehensive health and safety strategies to achieve risk reduction targets.

  • Incident Investigation: Conduct rigorous incident investigations for both reportable and non -reportable incidents, performing detailed root cause analysis to initiate preventative and corrective measures.

  • Auditing and Site Inspections: Execute internal compliance audits, routine workplace safety inspections, and investigate health and safety complaints across organisation facilities.

  • Team Guidance and Knowledge Transfer: Guide, coach, and support designated health and safety representatives while driving training initiatives and safety awareness campaigns to facilitate knowledge transfer.

  • Trend Analysis and Continuous Improvement: Analyse compliance trends using audit and incident reports, and lead specific safety projects aimed at continuous improvement and robust change management.

  • Legislative Alignment: Maintain an up -to -date working knowledge of developments in occupational health and safety legislation to ensure facility compliance



Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Senior Certificate.

  • Diploma in Health and Safety or Environmental Health.

  • Minimum of 5 years of dedicated Occupational Health and Safety Management experience supported by a NOSA or SAMTRAC diploma or certificate.

  • Proven track record of executing incident investigations and detailed root cause analysis.

  • Excellent understanding of health and safety implementation and enforcement processes within a large organisational framework.

  • Demonstrated capability to work under extreme pressure, handle high volumes of data, and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.

  • Clear, assertive communication skills with a strong sense of professional urgency and proactive problem -solving ability.

  • Non -negotiable Code EB (08) driver's licence

Desirable Requirements

  • Prior construction industry experience, specifically regarding site work operations and working alongside lifting and rigging equipment.

Required Software Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Computer literate across standard MS packages)
