Job Description - IPP Procurement Lead

MAIN PURPOSE


The opportunity is within the SIPPs department of NOA, which is responsible (among others) for sourcing energy from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on behalf of NOA Trading. NOA Trading aggregates energy from numerous power producers and sells that energy to private sector offtakers. The Procurement Lead is responsible for all sourcing activities to ensure that NOA has access to cost-competitive, timely and reliable energy sources as required by the business strategy.



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES



  • Lead NOA’s efforts to procure energy (through short and long-term PPAs) from Independent Power Producers (Wind, PV and BESS).

  • Set procurement strategy along with Head of Development.

  • Take the lead in building and maintaining relationships with IPPs.

  • Identify opportunities through partnerships or competitive RFP processes.

  • Analyse pricing, tariff structures, escalation mechanisms, and risk allocation.

  • Negotiate commercial transactions with IPPs.

  • Prepare presentation material for NOA IC to secure approvals for transaction.

  • Work with legal, finance, and capital teams to progress PPAs to execution and compliance.

  • Take full responsibility for negotiating attractive commercial positions for NOA and managing the process to GPPA signature (but will have the support of the NOA legal team and external council).



POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS


Qualifications:



  • Appropriate qualification in Engineering, Law, Development, Business or Finance.



Experience:



  • Must have 3-6 year’s experience in Renewable energy space

  • Must be familiar with GPPA contracts

  • Must be commercially astute

  • Knowledge of the Eskom grid and capacity constraints will be valuable



Industry knowledge, technical competence and skills:



  • Above average commercial awareness within the renewable industry advantageous

  • Competent with Excel & Powerpoint

  • Strong project management skills are essential
