Junior Product & Legal/Compliance Specialist (Gap Cover)

Role Purpose

The Junior Product & Legal/Compliance Specialist will support the development, maintenance, governance, and communication of Gap Cover products. The role is responsible for ensuring that all product documentation, marketing collateral, communications, and training materials remain accurate, compliant, and aligned to regulatory and business requirements.

The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between Product, Compliance, Marketing, Operations, Distribution, and external stakeholders to ensure that product information is effectively communicated and consistently applied across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Product Management Support

• Assist with the development, enhancement, review, and maintenance of Gap Cover products.
• Assist with the maintainenance product specifications, benefit schedules, underwriting rules, and related documentation.
• Support product launches, benefit enhancements, and annual renewal updates.
• Assist with conducting competitor and market research to identify trends and opportunities.
• Assist in preparing product proposals, presentations, and business cases.
• Ensure product information is accurately reflected across internal and external platforms.

Compliance & Regulatory Reviews

• Conduct compliance and quality assurance reviews of product-related collateral and communications.
• Review marketing material, sales presentations, brochures, benefit guides, web content, and digital communications for regulatory compliance.
• Ensure collateral complies with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, company standards, and insurer requirements.
• Liaise with Compliance, Legal, Insurers, and other stakeholders to obtain required approvals.
• Maintain version control and audit trails of approved product documentation.
• Monitor regulatory developments that may impact product wording, communications, or processes.
• Review external stakeholder contracts; SLA’s
• Liaise with Insurers on regulatory matters

Product Collateral Management

• Assist with the creation, update, and maintenance of all Gap Cover product collateral, including:
  • Benefit guides
  • Brochures
  • Summaries of Cover
  • Sales aids
  • Training manuals
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  • Renewal communications
  • Digital content
  • Internal reference documents
  • other
• Ensure consistency of CI, messaging, terminology, branding, and product positioning across all collateral.
• Coordinate collateral updates resulting from product changes, regulatory requirements, or operational improvements.

Product Training & Stakeholder Engagement

• Prepare and deliver product training to all relevant stakeholders, including:
  • Sales and business development teams
  • Client servicing teams
  • Customer service consultants
  • Broker consultants
  • Intermediaries
  • Internal operational teams
• Develop training presentations, facilitator guides, and supporting materials.
• Facilitate refresher and update sessions when product enhancements or changes are introduced.
• Support stakeholder understanding of policy benefits, exclusions, claims processes, and compliance requirements.
• Track training participation and maintain training records where required.
• Prepare and deliver product specific assessments

Product Governance

• Assist with product governance and change management processes.
• Maintain product documentation repositories and governance records.
• Support the implementation of product-related projects and initiatives.
• Ensure approved product changes are correctly communicated and implemented across the business.
• Assist with audits and compliance reviews relating to product documentation.
• Support the managing of the Rep register.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with:

• Coordinate approval processes for new and amended product communications and collateral.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in:
  • Law and or Compliance
  • Insurance – FAIS Fit & Proper
  • Marketing - Advantageous

Experience

• 1-3 years' experience in:
  • Insurance
  • Law and or Compliance
  • Financial services
  • Medical scheme or Gap Cover environment

Knowledge

• Short-term insurance and/or Gap Cover products.
• Marketing and compliance review processes.
• South African insurance regulatory environment.
• FAIS, PPRs, TCF, POPIA, and Consumer Protection legislation.
• Product documentation and collateral development.
