About the Position
SARS is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Junior Software Tester to support the delivery of high‑quality, reliable technology solutions in line with SARS standards. The successful candidate will form part of a skilled testing team responsible for executing low to medium‑complexity test cases, identifying and logging defects, and contributing to the overall software testing life cycle.
The role is ideal for an entry‑level testing professional who is eager to build practical experience in a structured, governance‑driven IT environment. The Junior Software Tester will work under guidance, applying defined testing standards, procedures, and tools to ensure that systems meet agreed quality requirements before release.
The incumbent will be expected to contribute to continuous service improvement by accurately reporting test results, supporting change initiatives, and escalating quality or delivery risks where necessary. Strong attention to detail, the ability to plan and manage own work, and a commitment to quality and service excellence are essential for success in this role.
This position offers an opportunity to gain exposure to enterprise‑scale systems within a complex regulatory environment while developing core software testing skills aligned to industry and SARS best practices.
Job Purpose
To execute low - medium complexity test cases as well as the identification and logging of defects in accordance with SARS standards.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
Higher Certificate (NQF 5) AND 12 months’ experience in Software testing, with a working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel.
Alternatively
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 18 – 24 months experience in a Software testing, with a working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel.

Job Outputs:
Process
- Conduct testing activities that verify a specific action or function of the application. (Functional and Non-Functional Testing)
- Daily execution of workload in relation to test lifecycle activities and assigned role.
- Execute test cases captured and assigned within Octane or test management system.
- Actively and continuous updating of the defect management systems throughout the day to reflect accurate and timeous defect registration, status and enabling management thereof
- Actively participate at all Testing Levels (Unit / Systems/ Regression/ Stability / Distribution
- Actively participate in the Testing Life-Cycle, be involved in the day-to-day test execution and monitoring of actual testing activities on a frequent basis
- Be observant and engage on possible violations of procedures and standards of conduct and escalate where necessary
- Capture defects within Octane or test management system in accordance with SARS defect reporting standards
- Take accountability for delivery of contracted work outputs within agreed parameters, quality standards and client service targets
- Update Octane or test management system to reflect testing progress
- Communication of transactional outputs and queries in area of work according to policies and quality requirements.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of area specific standards, procedures and processes to ensure continued quality and service improvement.
- Contribute to the successful implementation of change initiatives by providing support in area of work.
- Deliver on contracted performance objectives and escalate unresolved delivery and quality issues to management and process owners.
- Draw on own knowledge and experience to identify and develop solutions that leads to improved service delivery and quality.
- Effectively plan and schedule own activities to continuously improve quality and service delivery in area of work.
- Report on transactional and process activities within set guidelines to provide timely information for decision making.
