Job Description - Lecturer

Job Description:

The Full-Time Lecturer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in modules up to NQF Level 7 in the fields of Operations Management, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, and Quality Management.

The role includes curriculum support, assessment development and administration, student academic support, and contribution to continuous improvement of programmes in line with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ lecturing experience in Higher Education or TVET, delivering at NQF Levels 6–7.
  • Proven experience in assessment design and moderation within a higher education environment.
  • Working knowledge of a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, or similar.
  • Industry exposure in Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Quality Management (or broader Business Management) is advantageous.
  • Experience in e-learning and blended learning design and delivery. (Advantageous)
  • Familiarity with CHE, DHET and SAQA frameworks and requirements.(Advantageous)
  • Established industry networks within Logistics, Operations or Supply Chain sectors. (Advantageous)

Education:

  • Relevant Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Quality Management, Business Management, or a closely related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education / Teaching and Learning (or equivalent). (Advantageous)
  • Registered for, or progressing toward, a Master’s or Doctoral qualification.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning 

  • Prepare and deliver engaging, outcomes-based lectures aligned to approved curricula and module guides. 

  • Facilitate learning through face-to-face, blended and/or online teaching methodologies where . 

  • Ensure constructive alignment between learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessments. 

  • Develop and maintain teaching and learning materials (e.g., lesson plans, slides, tutorials, practical activities, case studies) to support applied learning. 

 

Assessment and Curriculum Support 

  • Assist with curriculum design, review and development in line with CHE requirements and institutional academic standards. 

  • Design and maintain assessments that are valid, fair, reliable and fit-for-purpose, aligned to module outcomes and NQF expectations. 

  • Contribute to the development, review and maintenance of a central Assessment Bank, ensuring appropriate version control and secure access. 

  • Manage and distribute approved assessment activities, including: 

  • Weekly assignments 

  • Tests 

  • Examinations 

  • Mark assessments, moderate where , and provide constructive feedback within agreed turnaround times. 

  • Participate in internal and external moderation processes, including preparation of moderation documentation and evidence packs. 

  • Uphold assessment integrity and security, including confidentiality, controlled distribution and quality checks. 

Student Support and Academic Development 

  • Provide academic consultation and student support sessions to promote success and progression. 

  • Identify and support at-risk students through targeted academic interventions and referrals where appropriate. 

  • Monitor student progress, participation and engagement on the LMS, and take proactive steps to address low engagement. 

  • Support student development in academic writing, critical thinking and applied problem-solving to strengthen workplace readiness. 

  • Contribute to student retention and student experience initiatives through responsive academic support and structured engagement. 

 

Quality Assurance and Administration 

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, CHE standards, assessment regulations and academic governance requirements. 

  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records, including attendance/participation, marks, moderation outputs, and feedback logs. 

  • Promote and enforce academic integrity, including plagiarism detection, academic misconduct processes and reporting. 

  • Participate in programme reviews, audits and continuous improvement initiatives, and implement agreed improvement actions. 

  • Attend academic meetings, training and development sessions aligned to role requirements and professional growth. 

  • Contribute to institutional projects focused on teaching innovation, learner success and process improvement. 

  • Provide input into performance monitoring and reporting, including student results trends, pass rates, risk areas, and recommended interventions. 

 

Industry Relevance and Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Ensure learning remains industry-relevant by integrating practical examples, case studies and current trends in operations, logistics, supply chain and quality management. 

  • Support industry engagement activities where applicable (e.g., guest speakers, networking, sector insights) to strengthen workplace alignment and student readiness.
