NatCarbon Africa seeks a Ellepot Machine Supervisor and Technician for our Ellepot in the Nursery Department for the large-scale Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.

With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom (Portulacaria afra) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.

Position Summary: 

To supervise machine-related activities and perform technical maintenance, repairs, optimisation and training to ensure maximum uptime and efficient Ellepot production while promoting safety.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

• Daily supervision of machine operators.


• Machine scheduling, performance monitoring, setup and calibration.


• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, fault finding and repairs.


• Coordinate major maintenance when required.


• Train operators on machine operation, basic troubleshooting and safe work procedures.


• Ensure maximum machine uptime and support production targets.


• Identify hazards, enforce safe work practices and report safety matters.


• Take reasonable care for own health and safety and that of the team; ensure compliance with OHS Act, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, machine guarding and PPE requirements.

General:

• Some travel within the Eastern and Western Cape may be required, including to remote locations, with occasional weekend or holiday work to accommodate schedules.

Skills: 

• Strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.


• Ability to train and supervise team members effectively.


• Good problem-solving and safety leadership abilities.

Qualifications: 

• Grade 12 + Technical qualification (N3/N4 or equivalent).


• Knowledge of OHS Act and manufacturing safety advantageous.

Knowledge and Experience: 

• Minimum 4 years’ experience operating, maintaining and supervising production machinery, including mechanical/electrical maintenance.


• Ability to troubleshoot Ellepot or similar machinery.

Performance Areas:

• Machine efficiency, output, and uptime.


• Downtime reduction and quick resolution of issues.


• Reliable equipment performance and safety compliance.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing floor environment with tools and machinery.


• Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations.


• Travel may on occasion cross weekends and holidays to accommodate schedules.


• Work hours may be irregular
