Job Description - Manufacturing Engineer (Industrialisation)

Position: Manufacturing Engineer (Industrialisation)

Incomar is an aerospace and defence company based in Centurion, South Africa. We are continuously expanding our specialised product development and flight operations capabilities. The group was established in South Africa in 1999, with its origins in military aircraft weapons and avionics integration and flight testing. The company is well established in the local and international industry, with a strong capability in several specialist areas, including:




  • Systems Design, Development, and Integration.

  • System Testing on a range of platforms / products.

  • Product Development.

  • Flight Test Execution and Support.



A Manufacturing Engineer within the Manufacturing Engineering department plays a critical role in supporting the industrialisation of new products from early prototyping through to full serial production. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop and optimise manufacturing processes, define tooling and equipment requirements, and drive DFMA initiatives to ensure smooth product transitions through each build phase. This role is responsible for enabling efficient, safe, and cost‑effective production ramp‑ups while maintaining high standards of quality and delivery performance. This role is well‑suited to an individual who thrives on solving complex manufacturing challenges and contributing to robust, scalable production systems.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering field or a relevant related tertiary qualification.

  • Police clearance certificate (required prior to commencement of employment).



Required Skills and Experience:



  • 3 or more years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering and Industrialisation.

  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly, composites, etc.).

  • Proficient with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and aerospace-specific regulations.

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage continuous improvement activities.


 


 Preferred Skills and Experience:



  • Experience in the aerospace, automotive, electronics, or precision engineering sectors is advantageous.

  • Experienced in Process Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plans (CP).

  • Strong understanding of business processes in areas such as Manufacturing Execution, Bills of Material, and Supply Chain.

  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings/models, and standards.

  • Proficiency in Manufacturing PLM/ERP Systems, process mapping, and project management tools.

  • Experience with test and calibration usage and handling.



Job Description:



  • The Manufacturing Engineer will be required to develop the manufacturing methods and processes within an ERP system with the objective to Industrialise products for serial production.

  • Develop MBOMs from EBOMs.

  • Configure Manufacturing process templates to carry out manufacturing workflow.

  • Parts Standardisation and Control.

  • Configure the Manufacturing Execution (MES) rules and workflow.

  • Managing Engineering Changes (CCBs).

  • Support Tools, Jigs and Fixture Design requirements, and tool proving.

  • Create reporting output tools.

  • The role involves close collaboration with design, production, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement in manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for
    Assembly (DFA).

  • Perform Process Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and establish Control Plans (CP).

  • Design, implement, and improve manufacturing processes, workflows, and layouts.

  • Support tooling, jigs, and fixtures designs for repeatable, high-accuracy manufacturing.

  • Create and manage the integration of the company ERP system for manufacturing purposes.

  • Manage the data migration and integration into the ERP.

  • Develop and maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures.

  • Create and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and build records to support full product traceability.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce production costs, cycle times, and waste while improving quality.

  • Writing and maintaining specifications related to manufacturing development activities and items.

  • Writing and maintaining manufacturing test and verification documentation.

  • Provide technical support to machining, composites, fabrication, electronics, integration, and final
    assembly lines to resolve process or equipment issues.

  • Train operators and technicians on new processes or equipment.

  • Maintain configuration control of processes in line with company and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions for production issues.

  • Work closely with the quality team to maintain continuous compliance with ISO and safety standards.

  • Interface with suppliers and partners to ensure subcontracted processes meet specifications and

  • Lead or support projects related to new product introduction, automation, or capacity expansion.

  • Apply lean manufacturing methodologies to enhance productivity.

  • Support adoption of Industry 4.0 concepts, including data-driven decision-making and predictive
