Job Description - Mechanical Engineer - Water Treatment

Build Innovative Water Treatment Plants That Make a Real Impact

An exciting opportunity is available with a dynamic and entrepreneurial engineering business operating in the water treatment industry. This privately owned company designs and builds modular water treatment plants for a wide range of sectors including healthcare, education, hospitality, manufacturing, and commercial environments across South Africa and neighbouring African countries.

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands -on Mechanical Engineer who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle — from concept and design through to implementation and commissioning. The environment is fast -paced, collaborative, and offers exceptional exposure to multidisciplinary engineering projects where your contribution will directly influence the success of each solution.

You’ll work closely with process engineers, project teams, and manufacturing to design practical, fit -for -purpose modular treatment systems that solve real -world water challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for modular water treatment plants
  • Assist with plant layouts, piping systems, pump selection, and equipment integration
  • Produce and support CAD drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation
  • Work closely with Process Engineers to ensure optimal treatment flow and plant functionality
  • Participate in the drafting and review of P&IDs
  • Support manufacturing and installation teams to ensure designs are implemented correctly
  • Conduct site visits and verify installed systems against design specifications
  • Assist with equipment sizing, material selection, and mechanical calculations
  • Contribute to testing, commissioning, and performance validation activities
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and engineering standards


Requirements

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering environment (water/wastewater process plants)
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, pumps, flow rates, and pressure systems
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and CAD modelling software (Inventor)
  • Knowledge of water treatment technologies such as UF/NF/RO membranes, filtration, ion exchange, and disinfection systems
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and problem -solving skills
  • High attention to detail with a practical engineering mindset
  • ECSA registration advantageous
  • Valid driver’s license essential
