Role Summary: A strategically minded Media Relations Specialist responsible for driving impactful media coverage, shaping narratives, and supporting client growth within a fast-paced agency environment.
Report to: Managing Director
Location: Claremont, Cape Town
Work Set-up: Hybrid
Schedule: Monday–Thursday (Office based). Fridays (Remote)

Responsibilities:
Media Relations & Content
- Build, manage, and leverage strong media relationships across South Africa (Africa exposure advantageous)
- Proactively identify and secure high-impact media coverage and interview opportunities
- Develop compelling content including press releases, op-eds, advertorials, media statements, and digital copy
- Craft strategic pitch angles and narratives aligned to client objectives
- Stay informed on news, media, and social trends to identify timely opportunities
Strategy & Campaign Delivery
- Develop and execute strategic media and communications plans
- Translate client objectives into impactful PR campaigns and storytelling
- Identify creative, non-obvious opportunities to generate visibility and engagement
- Contribute strategic thinking beyond execution, with increasing independence
Social & Digital Integration
- Develop and manage content calendars aligned to client communication objectives
- Oversee community management, ensuring timely and appropriate responses
- Support crisis communications by identifying and managing urgent or sensitive issues
- Apply a strong understanding of digital and social media landscapes
Client Service & Account Management
- Build strong, credible relationships with clients and act as a trusted partner
- Develop a deep understanding of client businesses and industries
- Anticipate client needs and proactively identify solutions and opportunities
- Support onboarding of new clients
- Compile status reports, action plans, and monthly reporting
- Ensure consistent delivery against client expectations and retainers
Growth & Commercial Contribution
- Contribute to new business pitches and agency growth initiatives
- Identify opportunities to expand scope within existing client accounts
- Support overall client retention through value-driven delivery
Ownership & Team Contribution
- Take full ownership of deliverables from strategy through to execution
- Work independently while collaborating effectively within the team
- Step into broader responsibilities as required to support team capacity
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met
- Degree in any field, even beyond Communication/PR (Postgraduate qualification advantageous)
- Proven experience in media relations / PR (agency preferred)
- Established media contacts – Africa media book advantageous
- Socially conscious and able to unpack complex ideas
- Experience in different subjects across a variety of sectors
- Cape Town based, with own vehicle
