Product Design – Summary

We are looking for a motivated, talented Product Designer who has an understanding of retail communication and an appreciation for graphic design and branding.

At Barrows, you will be involved in the design and development of a truly diverse range of retail displays, environments and equipment. Working in a creative, multi-disciplinary environment, you'll be challenged to design displays that are beautiful, practical, manufacturable and commercially viable. Someone who is passionate about consumer-centered design and has solid experience in shopper marketing, retail design skills would be ideal. 

Performance Scope

Our Industrial Designers work alongside a larger creative team and interact across the board with clients, retail specialists, Graphic Designers and Engineers to create designs from conceptual sketching all the way through to final rendered designs, and basic prototype validations. Design Retail solutions are created using top-end design packages, and are created at all times incorporating brand identities and with the retail environment in mind.

Skills

• Excellent at creatively solving complex design problems with elegant, simple solutions


• Good mechanical/structural aptitude and knowledge of various materials and their associated manufacturing processes

• Strong visual communication and form development skill


• Knowledge of ergonomic principles


• Proficient in all phases of product development: ideation, sketching, concept development, 3D modeling and rendering

• Computer literate, administratively strong, attention to detail

Experience & Qualifications

• Proven track record of designing in a marketing / FMCG environment would be a plus


• Someone with experience in shopper marketing, retail design skills would be advantageous


• 2-5 years of postgraduate, professional design experience (but we will consider less experience if you think you have what it takes)


• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Product Design or related


• Proficient in Creo for design modelling would be a plus


• Competency in 3D Studio Max for design rendering.


• Competency in Adobe CS


• Competency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word would be beneficial.

• Digital Sketching with a Wacom tablet a plus


• Ability to communicate and present fluently in English
