Job Advertisement: Chief Engineer (Plant Engineer)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance and improvement of our plant's fixed assets, ensuring their reliability and optimal performance. This role is critical to maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of our manufacturing processes. The Chief Engineer will lead a team of mechanics and engineering supervisors, driving excellence in maintenance and project execution while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and ethical conduct.

Responsibilities

Management Responsibilities:

• Develop, propose, and monitor Maintenance and Improvement (M&I) plans and objectives in alignment with engineering policies and principles.


• Implement work processes, procedures, and technical resources for the M&I team.


• Lead, motivate, and manage the M&I team to achieve operational objectives.


• Oversee and control the M&I budget and monitor key performance indicators.


• Coordinate personnel, including technicians and contractors, to meet project objectives.


• Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet agreed objectives.

Functional Responsibilities:

• Foster a culture of safety, ensuring all changes are assessed for their impact on product safety, people safety, and the environment.


• Ensure compliance with regulations and Good Engineering Practices.


• Oversee the implementation of repairs, modifications, and improvements based on assessments and audits.


• Provide on-the-job coaching to mechanics in machinery and line operation skills.


• Promote open communication between team members and stakeholders.


• Protect proprietary know-how and ensure alignment with business needs.

Maintenance Strategy:

• Align M&I activities with business strategy and encourage cross-functional teamwork.


• Implement and manage maintenance plans to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.


• Drive continuous improvement and adopt a proactive maintenance culture.


• Utilize predictive maintenance technologies and optimize planned downtime for maintenance activities.

Project Management:

• Ensure projects are designed for long-term impact and align with business objectives.


• Manage project implementation phases, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance.


• Prepare progress reports and ensure smooth transfer of equipment to clients, including all necessary documentation.

Asset and Maintenance Management:

• Manage work orders, labor allocation, and equipment Bill of Materials (BOM).


• Ensure accurate job planning and effective use of resources.


• Conduct root cause analysis and maintain comprehensive equipment history.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.


• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical field, preferably in food manufacturing or consumer goods industries.


• In-depth knowledge of food processing equipment maintenance, hygienic engineering, and regulatory requirements.


• Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and basic AutoCAD or Visio.


• Familiarity with Consequence Driven Maintenance (CDM) and Asset & Maintenance Management (AMM).


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


• Proficiency in English and/or the local language.

Day-to-Day

• Lead and manage the M&I team to ensure optimal plant performance.


• Monitor and analyze equipment performance, addressing any issues proactively.


• Collaborate with production, quality management, and other departments to resolve technical and operational challenges.


• Oversee maintenance schedules, ensuring timely completion of planned and unplanned work orders.


• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.


• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
