The purpose of this role is to support the Operations Department by coordinating daily activities, ensuring efficient workflow across all operational units, and maintaining high standards of service delivery.

To be successful at Alfred H Knight the incumbent will need to display the following:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Responsibilities
The organization and process of the daily workload to meet the agreed work schedules and ensuring the supervisors effectively manage their teams.
Liaising with the administration and laboratory departments to prioritize work specific to customer’s expectations
Liaise with the Branch Manager to ensure that the following contingencies are met: staff shortages as a result of leavers, illness, holidays, equipment malfunction/breakdown, peaking or growth of work volume within operations, re-prioritizing of significant amounts of sampling work.
Ensuring that the workforce is sufficiently motivated, skilled and properly trained to meet the operational needs of the business. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the Branch Manager of continual resourcing difficulties and/or operational problems.
Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to sampling/surveying and sample prep through incorporating and promoting good sampling practice principles.
Maintaining record keeping, such that work is clearly and easily auditable, and traceable within the guidelines of AHK.
Supporting the Branch/ Country Manager in organizing and participating in client visits and general client related technical discussion
Participating in disciplinary and grievance meetings in line with Company procedure and in consultation with the HR Department
Monitoring staff attendance and punctuality in consultation with the HR Department
Ensuring that the equipment and asset registers as kept up to date
Ensuring that efficiency tests/scale test/oven tests are conducted by the sample prep team and that registers are kept up to date.
Ensuring that all sample reception and sample removal registers are maintained and updated
Conduct training with all operational and sample prep staff members.
Carry out regular planned task observations.
Required Competencies
Ability to demonstrate literacy and be numerate
Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations and customer service
Trained in conflict management and effective interpersonal skills
Highly proficient in English (verbal and written)
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Demonstrate the ability to lead
Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal
Ability to work from own initiative with minimum supervision
Demonstrate good attention to detail
Ability to work in a team
Required Qualifications
Grade 12 (with Maths, English and Science)
Supervisor certificate would be an advantage
Knowledge of sampling methodology
Required work experience
3 years minimum experience in the commodity surveying, specific to metals and minerals
Required Languages
Highly proficient in English (Verbal and written)
