Operations Manager

Overseeing daily branch operations, this position drives operational efficiency, customer service excellence, and profitability for a well-established hardware and building materials supplier in Swellendam. Working closely with department supervisors, sales, administration, and management, the role ensures that all departments function safely, effectively, and in alignment with corporate standards. The successful candidate will lead and motivate team members, manage inventory processes, enforce health and safety regulations, and maintain high standards of housekeeping and merchandising across the facility.
Office hours are Mon - Fri  07:30- 17:30 and Saturdays and Public Holidays: 08:00 – 13:00 on rotation.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily branch operations to ensure departmental efficiency and profitability.
  

• Manage, support, and develop department supervisors and operational personnel.
  

• Drive high standards of customer service throughout the branch.
  

• Monitor stock levels, merchandising, housekeeping, and stock control procedures to minimise shrinkage.
  

• Coordinate receiving, dispatch, and warehouse logistics.
  

• Conduct regular branch inspections to identify operational improvements and resolve issues promptly.
  

• Monitor staff productivity, attendance, and overall performance.
  

• Maintain strict compliance with health, safety, and company policies.
  

• Prepare operational reports and provide actionable feedback to senior management.
  

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years’ management experience (preferably within hardware, retail, or building materials related sectors).
  

• Valid driver's licence.
  

• Proven leadership, staff management, and team-building capabilities.
  

• Strong organisational, administrative, and problem-solving skills.
  

• Ability to manage multiple departments under pressure.
  

• Good computer literacy.
