Principle Network Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Network Engineer to design, implement, and support a high-end network environment within our Infrastructure and Operations division. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in network architecture, optimization, and security, with proven expertise across enterprise-scale LAN, WAN, and cloud-enabled environments.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement network solutions aligned with defined strategy to enhance resilience and performance.
  

• Monitor and maximize network performance by troubleshooting complex issues, managing outages, and scheduling upgrades.
  

• Collaborate with business unit architects and owners to optimize the network environment.
  

• Investigate LAN, WAN, and firewall environments using data from multiple sources.
  

• Secure network systems and infrastructure by defining and enforcing security policies and access controls.
  

• Support and administer firewall environments in compliance with IT security policies.
  

• Report on network operational status by gathering, prioritising, and presenting key information.
  

• Upgrade data network equipment to stable firmware releases to maintain compliance.
  

• Configure routing, switching equipment, hosted IP voice services, and firewalls.
  

• Provide remote support to engineers and end users during installations.
  

• Manage IP addressing, hosted devices, and capacity within data centres.
  

• Collaborate closely with project management, third-line engineers, and service desk teams.
  

• Lead automation and innovation initiatives to streamline network operations.
  

Qualifications:

• Matric and tertiary IT qualification.
  

• 5+ years’ experience as a Senior/Principal Network Engineer or Solutions Architect.
  

• Relevant certifications (CCNP, NSE4, CCIP, CCIE) required.
  

• Solid foundation in Layer 1–3 protocols, DNS, Proxy, load balancers, and firewalls.
  

• Senior-level expertise in LAN/WAN technologies across platforms including Cisco, HP, Aruba, SD-WAN, and Fortigate.
  

• Hands-on experience with BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and other routing protocols.
  

• Broad infrastructure knowledge including Active Directory, Voice, and enterprise systems.
  

• Experience with Azure, AWS, and cloud-based network environments.
