Production /Manufacturing Factory Manager - DurbanFull job descriptionA well-established casket manufacturing plant situated in Phoenix , Industrial Park, seeks to employ a Factory Manager;Duties and responsibilities include ;· Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed production requirements· Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining and improving quality standards· Be responsible for production output, product quality and delivery· Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results· Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus· Monitor operations and initiate corrective and disciplinary action as required· Share a trusting relationship with work colleagues and recruit, manage and develop plant employees· Collect and analyse data to identify waste and excessive areas of overtime· Commit to plant safety procedures· Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets· Address grievances and complaints that remain unresolved at Manager and Supervisory levels· Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts· Implement, monitor and meet manufacturing team KPI's (i.e. on time delivery, supplier performance, product quality etc.)· Implement processes in alignment with business strategic plans and objectives· Develop and present annual budgets· Develop and manage daily priorities that drive production schedules to meet inventory levels, cost and quality goals.· Analyse production and quality metrics· Ensure all quality and regulatory standards are met in compliance with all company rules , processes and procedures and applicable laws, regulations and or legislation· Plan, organize and run day-to-day operations to ensure material and resource are available as required to meet and exceed expectations.· Drive a culture of continuous improvement, responsibility and accountability through employee· engagement and leading by example· Provide hands on leadership in lean manufacturing, including evaluating all existing systems, processes and metrics with a view to recommending and then implementing improvements which will minimize production costs and waste while maximizing production outputs· Maintain, manage and report on inventory levels· Implement and maintain tracking, of inventory processes to ensure accurate, real time, information is available at all times· Monitor inventory levels of supplies in order to avoid any interruption in operational processes· Support direct reports to troubleshoot and resolve problems as required;· Provide input on feasibility or design for manufacturability of new product proposals· Strategy and Development· Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice Lean vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance· Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Lean activities· General and Task Management· Develop a robust continuous improvement strategy in partnership with the Management Team and key business stakeholders· Implement and support cultural change in the manufacturing, production plant· Provide project management, analytical and research skills and expertise· Develop ,deliver, support and contribute towards business improvement standards in line with best practice· Report on progress of projects, understanding the risks, dependencies, budgets, resourcing, issues, critical milestones and forthcoming pipeline, and actions necessary to ensure success· Define, develop and publish business improvement process documentation to reflect best practice· Undertake business process analysis, statistical analysis for improvement projects and to support wider change· Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions· Produce written reports and make presentations· Undertake continuous training and development· Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems· Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department· Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors· People Management· Set department objectives/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports· Report on achievement of targets and identify any action required for non-performing areas· Ensure relevant on-going learning and development of all employees in lean improvement tools and communication methods· Coach and facilitate teams and individuals to identify and implement improvement opportunities· Build organisational capability by hiring and developing a continuous improvement team.· Develop annual development plans and provide input on organisation capability/succession planning· Develop and build a culture of engagement at all levels of the business to provide a highly energised team which is flexible to meet the changing needs of the business· Provide technical expertise to the team· Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required· Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements· Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within your area of accountability· Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity· Motivate and coach the team to operational success· Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems· Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them· Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility· Ensure KPIs are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting Financial and Budget Control· Input and hold responsibility for lean manufacturing budgets· Prepare the annual Lean budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards.· Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects· Responsible for achieving budget and forecast Relationship Management· Stay current and up to date on any technology changes that may affect Lean manufacturingSupport encourage and develop team with ownership for team cohesionEducational Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, production and or operational management or related field a plusPrevious production operations and manufacturing management experience5 years or more experience in a Production & Manufacturing plant5 years or more in a managerial roleCertification in SIX SIGMA & Lean Manufacturing principals and processesStrong communications skillsKnowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Power point and ExcelExcellent analytical skillsBasic
