NatCarbon Africa is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Fencing Quality Controller to join our dynamic team. The Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.
With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom (Portulacaria afra) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.
Position Summary:
NatCarbon Africa is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Fencing Quality Controller to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of fencing, harvesting and planting of Spekboom operations within our nature-based carbon projects. This role is critical in safeguarding project sites, protecting newly planted areas, and ensuring compliance with environmental and project specifications. The Fencing Quality Controller will work closely with contractors and project teams to uphold the highest standards of quality and environmental integrity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project managers and environmental specialists to ensure fencing practices support overall project goals and environmental protection
- Ensure that all fencing operations contribute to the secure establishment of planting sites .
- Provide guidance and training to contractors on best practices for fencing and quality assurance.
- Maintain high standard of quality management
- Implement relevant policies, directives and regulations
- Assist to set out the tasks for contractors with clearly defined boundaries and time limits.
- Ensure allocated contractors perform tasks as per the predetermined protocols.
- Report any challenges to the Extension Officer or Project Manager.
- Ensure all health, safety and environmental requirements are adhered to by contractors and conduct daily checks on teams (vehicle safety, PPE).
- Assist with risk assessments and quality assurance audits, including Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Identifies and reports potential health, safety and security issues and addresses where possible.
- Transport staff as required. This could include transport to training or collecting equipment.
- Issuing and receiving of stock management
- Ensure all ecological protocols are adhered to on site.
- Assist Project Manager and Project Extension Officer with landowner relations and ensure contract teams comply to any specific requirements from the landowners.
- Maintain all reporting requirements daily and monthly basis as needed.
- Assist with data collection and capturing (social, environmental, or other) in the required format.
- Accurate and timeous completion of all relevant documentation (log sheets, claim forms, asset management).
- Compile reports as required.
- Assist with control and management of assets and equipment.
- Assist with fleet management of NatCarbon vehicles.
- Undertake data capture meticulously.
- Perform administrative duties as needed.
- Attend meetings and training as needed.
- Ensure all NatCarbon policies and procedures are implemented.
- Coordinates and supervises all activities including harvesting, planting, watering, and other associated project activities.
- Make recommendations to supervisor based on observation in the field.
- Strengthening relationships with existing stakeholders & Landowner
General:
- This role requires supervising teams in remote outdoor environments and involves physical activity.

- Some travel within the Eastern and Western Cape may be required, including to remote locations, with occasional weekend or holiday work to accommodate schedules. Work hours may be irregular.

Qualifications:
- Tertiary degree or Diploma in Conservation, Forestry, or related field
Knowledge and Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in quality control for environmental projects, with demonstrated proficiency in liaising with contractors to ensure project success is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of fencing techniques and materials.
- Physical fitness to perform field duties and inspections
- A valid drivers license with 5 years practical driving experience with 4x4 experience advantageous
- Knowledge and experience in managing contractor teams.
- No criminal record
- A PDP with a code EC (Code 10) drivers
- Experience in GIS will be an advantage.
- The ideal candidate will leverage their hands-on experience to oversee contractor relationships and project deliverables.
- Knowledge and experience in collaborating with contractor teams.
- Proficiency in MS-Office.
- Knowledge of working with a GPS or similar device.
- Knowledge of the vegetation of the Eastern Cape.
Working Conditions
- Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations. Travel may on occasion cross weekends and holidays to accommodate schedules. Work hours may be irregular
