This newly created leadership role is responsible for leading Ausgrid’s Recoveries function, a specialist team that recovers costs associated with third-party damage to the network while delivering critical commercial outcomes for the business. Reporting to the Head of Customer Care, you will lead a team of experienced investigators and recovery specialists, oversee complex stakeholder relationships, and drive continued growth in recovery performance.

We’re seeking a confident, emotionally intelligent leader who can lead change and continuous improvement as the Recoveries function continues to mature. You will modernise processes, uplift team capability, strengthen insurer and stakeholder partnerships, and identifying opportunities to improve workflows and performance across the function. We're looking for a people leader who can successfully guide a diverse workforce through process improvement, changing business needs, and balance commercial outcomes.

Key responsibilities:  

• Accountable for delivering third-party recovery outcomes in line with agreed business targets and financial expectations


• Drive improvements in applying sound commercial judgement to recovery strategies, negotiations, escalations and write-off recommendations


• Lead the management of disputed and escalated recoveries, including matters involving contested liability, insurer challenge or legal escalation.


• Ensure recoveries are pursued efficiently, lawfully and in accordance with Ausgrid policies, delegations and insurance arrangements.


• Identify and implement process, capability and workflow improvements that strengthen recovery performance and team effectiveness.


• Lead teams through change, consultation and transition activities as required


• Establish clear expectations, constructive performance conversations and a culture of accountability and professionalism


• Engage effectively with internal stakeholders including Field Operations, Legal and Finance to support recovery outcomes.


• Improve reporting, workflow visibility and management oversight

What you bring to the role

• Experience or strong understanding of recoveries, liability assessment, insurance-related processes or dispute resolution.


• Experience working within a recoveries, investigations, insurance, or legal support functions.


• Proven experience leading and developing a team in a commercial, operational or investigative environment.


• Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills to manage complex multi-party disputes.


• Demonstrated ability to assess liability, evidence and financial risk.


• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholder engagement.

Highly regarded:

• Understanding of utility networks, asset damage, construction activities or field operations.


• Experience engaging with insurers, councils, contractors or legal representatives.


• Experience in a regulated utility or large infrastructure organisation.


• Tertiary qualifications or significant experience relevant to business, law, insurance or finance.
