Work Schedule: Part-time contractor, ~20 hours per week. One 1-hour live call with the US team every other day (approx. 3 calls/week) during US Central business hours

US-Based Travel Center company

Our US-Based Travel Center company operates travel centers and fuel distribution across Texas and the Midwest, serving professional drivers, fleets and retail customers. Our finance team is in the middle of a transformation agenda focused on automating reconciliations, tightening controls, and improving the accuracy of financial information.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to own the reconciliation between our PDI ERP / point-of-sale transaction data and the settlement and funding files we receive from credit card processors and fleet/fuel card providers (WEX, Fiserv, Comdata, TCH, EFS, Fleet One, Amex, and others). This is a hands-on, data-heavy role: you will write your own SQL, build the matching logic, quantify and explain variances at the transaction and site level, and drive items to resolution with Accounting, IT and the card networks.

This is a part-time, fully remote contract engagement. We do not require you to sit in a US time zone, but you must be available for a one-hour live working call with the US team every other day.

Engagement DetailsKey Responsibilities

• Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations between PDI (ERP/back office), POS transaction data, and settlement files from credit card and fleet card providers.


• Build and maintain transaction-level matching logic in SQL; move the process from summary-level comparison toward automated transaction-level matching.


• Identify, quantify and document variances by site, by day, by funding company; determine root cause (mapping errors, fees and discounts, chargebacks, timing, fraud, missing settlements) and propose corrections.


• Validate that POS transactions are mapped to the correct funding customer and general ledger accounts before matching is attempted.


• Reconcile discounts, transaction fees, ACH funding, and chargebacks to what is recorded in the ledger; flag unexplained deductions to be disputed with the provider.


• Prepare monthly reconciliation packages with supporting schedules, proposed journal entries, and an aged listing of open items.


• Support disputes and recovery efforts with card providers by assembling the underlying transaction evidence.


• Partner with IT on data extracts, file feeds and automation; document the process so it is repeatable and auditable.


• Deliver a concise written status on open items, recoveries and risks ahead of each live call with the US team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Information Systems or a related field.


• 5+ years in financial analysis, accounting, or payment operations, with at least 2 years doing high-volume reconciliations.


• Strong, demonstrable SQL skills — joins, window functions, aggregation, CTEs, and the ability to write and tune queries independently against large transaction tables.


• Direct experience with credit card / payment processing: settlement and funding files, interchange and processing fees, merchant discounts, chargebacks and representation.


• Advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, large-file handling); comfortable working with multi-million-row datasets.


• Solid understanding of US GAAP as it relates to accounts receivable, revenue recognition and balance sheet reconciliation.


• Excellent written and spoken English; able to explain a variance clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience.


• Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet environment for calls, and availability for a one-hour live call every other day during US Central business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with PDI Enterprise (or another convenience-store / fuel retail ERP).


• Familiarity with fleet and fuel card networks: WEX, Comdata, TCH, EFS, Fleet One, Mudflap, QuikQ.


• Experience in fuel retail, convenience stores, travel centers, trucking or logistics.


• Power BI or similar BI tooling; Python or other scripting for data preparation.


• Exposure to PCI DSS requirements and EMV compliance concepts.


• CPA, CMA, or equivalent local accounting qualification.

Success in the First 90 Days

• Days 1–30: Understand the current reconciliation process, data sources and mapping logic; reproduce the existing monthly reconciliation independently.


• Days 31–60: Deliver a transaction-level matching routine in SQL for at least two card providers and a documented aging of open variances.


• Days 61–90: Reduce unexplained variances by an agreed target percentage and hand over a documented, repeatable monthly process.

Working Arrangement

• ~20 hours per week, flexible scheduling outside of the required live calls.


• Three one-hour video calls per week with the Accounting and IT teams in the US.


• All work performed on in house systems and approved tools; confidentiality and data-handling agreement required.
