Role: Social Media Marketing Manager
Priority Location: South Africa
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 40hrs/week, 8AM-5PM US Eastern Time
Type of job: Fully Remote
The final offer is at the client’s discretion and will depend on the candidate’s interview result, skills, and experience.
About the Role: The Social Media Marketing Manager owns the day-to-day growth of the brand and founder social accounts: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest. This is a senior, hands-on role for an assertive, forward-thinking operator who sets direction, manages creative talent, and is accountable for measurable account growth.
This is not an entry-level or coordinator position, and it is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do. The ideal candidate makes day-to-day decisions independently inside an agreed strategy, directs creative teams firmly, and brings platform trends, format ideas, and growth plays to the founder before being asked.
Key Responsibilities
Account Growth & Performance
Own follower growth, reach, and engagement targets across all social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest).
Track metrics continuously and report performance against growth targets weekly with hard numbers.
Identify performance gaps early and submit recovery plans on the same day misses or delays are identified.
Daily Social Listening & Engagement
Monitor all brand and founder social accounts multiple times daily as a core, non-negotiable duty.
Respond to comments and direct messages within 24 hours.
Proactively engage followers and comparable industry accounts every day to drive platform reach and follower acquisition.
Content Strategy, Calendar & Approvals
Build and maintain a comprehensive monthly content calendar covering every platform (including Stories), keeping captions and posting statuses current at all times.
Operate within strict written approval guidelines for the founder's personal channels.
Ensure nothing posts to the founder’s LinkedIn account without prior written approval.
Creative Team Leadership & Founder Direction
Direct and manage internal or contracted creative talent, including videographers and graphic designers.
Issue clear, written creative briefs featuring reference examples, required format, target length, and tone before any shoot or design work begins.
Enforce deliverable standards and firm deadlines; resolve pushback without reversing decisions unless presented with new facts.
Provide the founder with written reference examples, shot/format descriptions, and target lengths in advance every time on-camera or on-mic content is requested.
Tool Ownership & Hands-On Production
Manage all scheduling, publishing, and inbox management through Meta Business Suite and core scheduling platforms (Later, Buffer, or equivalent). Submit written justifications for any proposed tool changes.
Personally edit and finalize daily short-form video (Reels, TikTok, Stories) and simple graphics using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or Canva. Reserve outside creative talent for large-scale productions.
Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of experience managing social media accounts for a consumer brand, with at least 2 years in a role directly accountable for measurable growth metrics.
Creative Leadership: Mandatory direct experience leading and managing videographers AND graphic designers (staff or contract), including enforcing standards, setting briefs, and managing performance.
Growth Track Record: Demonstrated history of driving account performance, supported by concrete metrics (followers, reach, engagement, or attributed revenue).
Hands-On Editing Skills: Proficient in editing short-form video and producing simple graphics independently using tools like CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or Canva.
Technical Proficiency: Expert fluency with Meta Business Suite, native social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest), and scheduling tools (Later, Buffer, or equivalent).
Who Succeeds: Highly assertive, forward-thinking, and independent operator who takes full accountability for targets, reports issues proactively, and manages creative workflows without hand-holding.
Nice to Have
Previous experience in Beauty, Hair Care, or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industries.
