Resource Geologist - Exploration

This role will be responsible for providing the specialist geological service in terms of exploration, database management and ore body modelling within the geoscience department and forms part of the mine technical services. The role ensures the integrity and compliance of geological and analytical data, enabling the creation of reliable resource models and enhancing confidence in resource estimation. The successful candidate will work across various teams, providing technical guidance, developing protocols, planning and implementing exploration drilling program for the operation.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
• Providing specialist geological service in terms of the exploration, database management and ore body modelling
• Responsible for maintaining and improving the effectiveness of the geological component of the mine technical service team
• Effective services to support the mine’s geological department performance
• Review and advise on the exploration of the ore body
• Prepare 3-D geological models
• Implementation and administration of necessary systems
• People management and good employee relations
• Supervise on drilling, logging and sampling, as well as geophysical surveys
• Reports on adherence to standard and efficiencies
• Review and advise on the optimum exploitation of the ore-body
• Evaluation of the resource
• Communication of exploration results
• Build strong relationships with geologists, laboratories, and external service providers to ensure alignment on quality control measures
• Oversee the production and distribution of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs), ensuring they meet specified grades and reef types

There could be ad hoc requirements from time to time including need to travel

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field
• A postgraduate qualification – Master’s degree (advantageous)
• Professional Geologist (P.Geo) certification
• Registered Natural Scientist is an added advantage
• Valid Code 08 driver’s license

Experience:

• Post qualification experience in mining and or exploration geology (5+ years)
• Evaluation experience will be advantageous
• Post qualification experience in Bushveld and platinum geology (3 years would be advantageous)

Knowledge and Skills

• Computer literate: MS Office
• Proficiency in geological software (e.g. Datamine, Acquire, GIS, Leapfrog)
• Sound knowledge pertaining to applicable legislation
• Understanding of importance of QA/QC protocols in exploration essential
