Senior Backend Software Developer

Location: Hybrid (2-4 days in office/week) 
Salary Range: ZAR 1.1 - 1.5 Million PA 

Role Overview

We seek a Senior Backend Developer with a strong technical background and a passion for real-world problem-solving. You'll contribute to building a reliable, low-latency athlete-and-ball tracking system used in training, live broadcasts, and officiating. This role focuses on enhancing our Golang backend, working with APIs, databases, and asynchronous messaging, while collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and sports scientists.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver reliable, well-documented code.
• Develop and maintain APIs and data streams.
• Ensure feature suitability and interoperability with frontend and embedded systems.
• Support cloud ecosystem development and maintenance.
• Uphold quality through testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Participate in an on-call rota.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in Golang (or other strongly typed languages).
• Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Experience with Linux (cloud and local), AWS/GCP, and CI/CD.
• Testing expertise (TDD/BDD), Git, and effective teamwork.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of network protocols (HTTP, TCP/UDP, WebSocket).
• Messaging protocols (MQTT/AMQP).
• Basic JavaScript/React or Python.
• Algorithms/math skills for data science collaboration.
• Startup or local application deployment experience.
